Gettin Er Done On the Cheap....
This past summer I picked up a used Savage 111 in .30-06 for $300.00 Canadian at the Cabelas used gun rack. Slapped a paint job on it and modified a a cheap $15.00 Weaver rail to fit the base hole pattern.
I then found a Burris Fulfield E1 3-9x40 for $60.00 in a local buy sell ad and slapped that on. Developed a respectable hunting load that isn't a barn burner velocity wise but thought it would do the trick.
Things turned out rather nicely this year in terms of toting one of them ugly Savage el cheapos......

56 grains of H4350 and a 168 grain Nosler Balistic Silver Tip. Yields a paltry 2670fps and decent hunting accuracy.

Let out a grunt call and he peered over a knoll and looked at me with just his head and neck showing at 223 yards.

Nothing says success like venison in the freezer. Great job!!

I like the color choice on the stock.

Congrats!

Your paint job definitely improved the ascetics. Looks great.

What paint did you do and did you have to do anything to make it stick to the original stock finish?

I used the Krylon Fusion Khaki colour for the base. Then used Krylon webbing paint and then did 4 coats of Krylon matte clear coat. Its a very tough finish.... Krylon Fusion is made exclusively to adhere very well to plastics. No need to rough up the stock or anything. Just clean it well....
