I have a some Two's, Three's, and Four's and More of the caliber and same cartridge. Some are the identical rifle with different scopes, some have different barrel lengths, some have different stocks, some are different manufacturer's rifles in the same cartridge. The "logic"/ rationalization that I use is simple; I like the caliber and/or specific cartridge, some are aligned for different terrain / bullet use, some were in search of my mythical "ideal rifle" at the time, and some are tagged for future projects in the continuing search for the "ideal rifle."
And I do really like the 375 caliber and cartridges, as well as the 416's and 338's, 8mm's, and some smaller bores. Though likely a pair each of 375 Ruger's, 325WSM's, and 5.56 / 223 would work nicely for my hunting.

swampshooterI own 3 30/06's and elk hunt with them. As IMHO they are a better elk rifle than my 7RM.

What's the point?
I own three bolt-action rifles in 30/06. They're set up for use in different conditions, so while they all fire the same cartridge, I use them for different things. With a cartridge as versatile as the 30/06, it's not a bad way to go.

MuttlyCouple of 9.3x62s, one wood, one synthetic, both CZ... Hadn't thought to count .22s at first, couple there, and the mandatory .22 revolver. Got one .257 Roberts kickin around, and another one of the Montana persuasion on the way. Have a pretty good pile of .270 ammo, but currently between .270s.. But only one 30-30, so I,d hafta say I,m still way over on the practical side of the street...

CougarzI have two .30-06's. One I bought on purpose and the other was given to me. The free one is a 1917 Enfield (Remington) that was sporterized I'm sure in the 20's or 30's with Pacific barrel band front sight and receiver sight. It's still in pretty decent shape. It's become my camp rifle since it's darn near indestructible.
I keep thinking one day I'll turn it into something like a .404 Jeffery and maintain the 1920's styling. The machining on it is wonderful. They just don't build them like that anymore.

SpooksarWhere to start I collect lever action rifles such as Savage 99 and Winchester 88 so 243, 308, 284, and 358 Winchester. 3 -30-06, 2 9.3x62, 2 375 H&h, 2 35 Whelen, 2 416 Rigby, 2 338 Win Mag, Handfull of 223 and 7.62x39, 4 6.5x55 swede. 2 30-40 Krag, 5 405 Win, 5 45/70, 2 44 Mag and I'm sure there are some I forgot.

CougarzOh yeah, I do have two 6.5X55mm 96 Mausers. One is an orginal Swedish military 96 - a lovely and accurate rifle with it's 29 inch barrel. The other is a sporterized 96 done up by Kimber of Oregon when they got in financial trouble years ago. It's a great deer rifle, accurate even with it's military two stage trigger. I have to pry it away from my wife in order to shoot it once in a while.
I also have two .30-30's, a Marlin 336 and a winchester 94. I try to not show brand bias but I think the Marlin is the better gun. To me a lever action .30-30 is still one of the most practical western Washington blacktail rifles ever designed.

In all fairness I decided to convert 2 of the 06s to a 257Roberts and a 35Whelen, and both of those guns are at thee gunsmith as well. I might make one 7mag a 300 H&H.

I don't have any two of a kind.
Mine are all different calibers and different models with spreads in age from ancient to the ultimate modern. *( Including black powder muzzle loading ).
Most are Mausers. The last one was the last manufactured on Oberndorf. A 30-06 straight pull/push bolt. It's "OK" as a shooter. I took game with it, but it's a disappointment.
Some Browning, Winchester, Ruger, Colt. Marlin, *( Bolt action, semi-auto, lever action ).
I really am a bit fussy. I don't buy Remingtons, Weatherbys nor any of the others that are current.
One of my bosses owned 600 guns. He had his own company and quite a surplus of profit annually. But he didn't hunt or shoot. He did do some gunsmithing. All of his guns were high end, most $15,000 and up. He was a collector trader for investment *( And maybe some tax abatement too )? He was frequently going to gun auctions/shows/trades all over the USA and always crabbing about how much the values - to buy - were going up so much, so fast. He's gone now, passed away several years ago.
He built a new house while I was employed by him. Had a special, custom gun room built especially for his collection. Hired special carpenters. Had to reinforce the floor. He was always afraid to leave home for fear of being robbed.
In fact he was robbed. Has a beautiful, very expensive flintlock hanging in his office. Someone stole it. It wasn't a break in. Someone apparently had a key !!!!! Never found out who did it.
Was he actually a gun nut ??? He did love guns but their value much more.

Shooter973I have 4 30-06's 3 bolts and an M1 Garand. I have 3 243's 10 different 223's , bolts semiauto's, 2 308's bolts and a Win 88 lever action. 2 45/70's one lever action one single shot. 6 30-30's in levers and 2 bolts. 6 44 Mags in rifes.and more in handguns. Levers, semi auto's and bolts. and many 22lrs. in rifles.
The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

All those videos you've seen with people like Bob Munden and Tom Knapp and others who do all the fancy shooting tricks.... they wore out a few guns learning how to do that.
When they wore one out, the replacement item was exactly the same thing that they just wore out. It is said that familiarity breeds contempt but that familiarity and constant practice with the same item also builds a much higher level of skill than one is likely to get by owning and using a dozen different types of firearms.

Sorry no. My two were Emil McConnell and John Charles. Emil dealt extensively with Griffin & Howe. Both had massive amounts of guns in the hundreds but I think Wes Adams eclipsed them by quite a margin. He was renowned for having the worlds finest collection. Some of his old Winchester's were priced at $200,00 to $300,000. And they were spectacular. If I have correct information Wes Adams collection was displayed in the Cody Firearm Museum at one time.
Apparently the collection was auctioned off in three phases between 2011 and 2013 by Jim Julia and Joe Larue. I saw some figures tossed around about an $18 million auction. Some of my "facts" may be a little it fuzzy.
I go WAY back with John Charles. I would be surprised if anyone knows him today.
I also go WAY back with Emil McConnell. He passed away also several years ago. Last I heard was that his son was involved in the estate but I didn't follow it and a don't know the disposition of his collection. *( My guess would be that Griffin & Howe may have been involved in the disposition of the collection after Emil's demise but that would be only a guess ).
John Charles and Emil McConnell both owned industrial and commercial drilling company's as well as pump factory's. Charles operations were also international. Wes Adams was in real-estate and I think from Utah. All three were very wealthy.
I should know. I made millions for them while I was a manager. Typically they lavished surplus funds on gun collections but at the same time they pinched penny's and trying to get decent salary and bonuses was like pulling hens teeth. But I did OK. They were decent people. I have no complaints. Both gave me fortuitous opportunities for rapid advancements - to their benefit !!!
*( Incidentally John Charles didn't hunt or shoot guns either ). I don't know about Wes Adams.

SxS-boyI have among other things 3 AR's in 6X45 one a light barreled coyote gun, a heavy barreled NRA "across the course" gun and a bolt action Tikka. The Tikka is only because after 10 years of use the 223 barrel was shot out.
Are shot guns out of the question? I have 4 Browning Superposeds 3 12ga and a 20ga

This happens. Especially with favorite cartridges. Many rifles in the same caliber have very different uses.

Mostly I have one ofs but have had multiples of some over the years. I used to keep three 222's, a Remingotn 700 ADL, a Winchester 70V very heavy barreled and a Savage 24 222/20 gauge. Now I just have one, a 16gax16gax222 Rimmed. At one point I had a couple of 45-70's but that was brief.
I do have two 41 magnum revolvers right now but only because one hasn't sold yet.
I tend to have more duplicates in shotguns than anything else. Three 12 gauges and two 16's right now. Had two 10 gauges until one of my buddies traded me out of one which is how I came to have two 16's.

Never under estimate the internet community's ability to reply to your post with their personal rant about their tangentially related, single occurrence issue.
What I have learned on AR, since 2001:
1. The proper answer to: Where is the best place in town to get a steak dinner? is…You should go to Mel's Diner and get the fried chicken.
2. Big game animals can tell the difference between .015 of an inch in diameter, 15 grains of bullet weight, and 150 fps.
3. There is a difference in the performance of two identical projectiles launched at the same velocity if they came from different cartridges.
4. While a double rifle is the perfect DGR, every 375HH bolt gun needs to be modified to carry at least 5 down.
5. While a floor plate and detachable box magazine both use a mechanical latch, only the floor plate latch is reliable. Disregard the fact that every modern military rifle uses a detachable box magazine.
6. The Remington 700 is unreliable regardless of the fact it is the basis of the USMC M40 sniper rifle for 40+ years with no changes to the receiver or extractor and is the choice of more military and law enforcement sniper units than any other rifle.
7. PF actions are not suitable for a DGR and it is irrelevant that the M1, M14, M16, & AK47 which were designed for hunting men that can shoot back are all PF actions.
8. 95 deg F in Africa is different than 95 deg F in TX or CA and that is why you must worry about ammunition temperature in Africa (even though most safaris take place in winter) but not in TX or in CA.
9. The size of a ding in a gun's finish doesn't matter, what matters is whether it’s a safe ding or not.
10. 1 in a row is a trend, 2 in a row is statistically significant, and 3 in a row is an irrefutable fact.
11. Never buy a WSM or RCM cartridge for a safari rifle or your go to rifle in the USA because if they lose your ammo you can't find replacement ammo but don't worry 280 Rem, 338-06, 35 Whelen, and all Weatherby cartridges abound in Africa and back country stores.
12. A well hit animal can run 75 yds. in the open and suddenly drop with no initial blood trail, but the one I shot from 200 yds. away that ran 10 yds. and disappeared into a thicket and was not found was lost because the bullet penciled thru. I am 100% certain of this even though I have no physical evidence.
13. A 300 Win Mag is a 500 yard elk cartridge but a 308 Win is not a 300 yard elk cartridge even though the same bullet is travelling at the same velocity at those respective distances.
