Ruger American 7.62x39??
I have a Ruger American 7.62x39 coming, don't have it in hand yet. But, I'm curious to know what the inside barrel diameter is. Is it .308 or .311-.312? My RCBS dies have an interchangeable expander button but inquiring minds want to know.
Thanks in advance.

.308 unless they have changed things.

When Ruger came out with the mini 30 in 7.62x39

The used a 308 dia. they did extensive testing using ammo having .311 dia bullets.

They found no problems.

So I will guess it is 308 in the American.

That’s interesting. Makes me wonder what bore was used in their No. 1 in 303 Brit.

FISH!!

Heed the words of Winston Smith in Orwell's 1984:

"Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right."

Getting the bore diameter with in .003" of specs is better than average for Ruger in any caliber. Big Grin

If you can find Corbon 123 gr DPX ammo it will shoot excellent out of the Ruger American.

I once owned a Ruger Mini-14 in 7.62x39 and couldn't get it to shoot a 4" group at 100 yards with good glass. Started out with several varieties of factory ammo. Decided I would try reloading for it.

Contacted Ruger to determine the bore diameter and they would not devulge what bore diameter it was. I'm sure it was a lawyer response as it was worded something about 'we do not respond to reloading questions'.

Good luck!

I bought a case of Barnaul ammo, Rusky stuff, steel cased HP. Ay $2.00 a box I thought I'd burn it up in anything.
I cant load anything that shoots any better!
5 shot groups under an inch, often 3/4", with that light little barrel on my Ruger 77.

You're going to enjoy the Ruger American Ranch in 7.62x39. My friend and I have used ours extensively both with a suppressor and without. Plenty accurate, cheap to practice with...have killed a few hogs with them.

.310

They were made for cheap imported AK ammo.

Those who slam Ruger barrels, are referring to the pre 1990 ones when they used Wilson barrels, the lowest quality on the market. Since they started hammer forging their own, they are good.
And in this thread we have two answers to the same question; has anyone actually measured one?
Calling the factory won't help; the ones who answer the phone aren't provided with that kind of information.
