The perfect cartridge
Mabey this belongs under wildcats, but here goes. Who can build me a .362, in a necked up .264 win mag? It should fit in a standard action. Have a belt, so it could be called a magnum. It will be better than a .35 whelen because of a larger diamiter bullet, and it will be better than a 9.3 x 62 because it will have better sectional density. It will be better than a 30-06 because it will have more case capacity, and it will be better than a .375 H & H because it will not have as much recoil. Am I missing anythiing?

Take a 358 Norma Mag and neck it up. Now, who is going to make your imaginary bullets?

What you're 'missing' is that the same 'methodology' can be applied to any cartridge in order to 'prove' that is better than all others. Specifically:

X is faster than anything with less powder capacity.

X is more 'efficient' and has less recoil than anything with more powder capacity.

X has more 'area' than any smaller caliber.

X has a higher SD than any larger caliber.

Therefore X is better than anything else (fill in your favourite cartridge for 'X') Wink

Or you could just get a .338 WM and be done with it. Wink

Car makers play these games all the time... Pick each category where your product leads and ignore all others. Not many new/better cartridge ideas out there that haven't already been tried.

You'd swaged some .366 bullets down.
