Hey guys, just FWIW-maybe nothing-I went through a bit of an ordeal back in June when I asked a local gun dealer to order for me a CZ550FS in 9.3x62. I finally got the rifle, or perhaps it's more properly called a carbine, but the rings were lost someplace. I sighted in with the iron sights and 270 gr Speers. YOu guys don't seem to like that bullet much but it is cheap and I thought it was a place to start from. Got the irons dead on at 50. Before the rings arrived I also got a bunch of the Norma 286 gr. Oryx bullets. Loaded them up and for all practical purposes they have the same POI at 50 as the Speers. Finally mounted a 4x Leupold into Warne QD rings. Went out to start all over again. After bore sighting it took only a few rounds to get the Speer bullets right where I want them. Believe it or not the Norma bullets were again in the same group-or perhaps a bit tighter. I've played around with the carbine and have shot over a hundred rounds of both bullets combined since then and I am pretty damned happy. I had to adjust the trigger a bit, and i've done a lot of dry fire practice-also working the action to smooth it out. I have practiced from 25 to 200 yards and so far I am very pleased. I rarely shoot beyond 50 yards in hunting anyway. The stock is a bit fat in places and I'm not real happy with the finish on it but I think with two years of hard hunting here in the N.W. it'll be ready for refinishing. At that time I will slim it down a tad and refinish with linseed oil and then I think it will be a dynamite rifle. IN the meantime I think I'll use those Speer bullets for deer and bear and the Norma bullets for elk. My best friend swears by the Speer bullet for deer. I've had the gun out bear hunting a few times already and it is a joy to carry in the heavy timber but so far we have found no bears. I am curious to see what happens to the stock and POI after 3-4 days of solid rain. Anybody know how to weatherize one of these things or have any other comments or advice? Thanks.

Gotta luv them CZ's. My 550FS 6.5x55 did not come with rings either. I was told they were not supplied with the FS. I did get rings with my 550 American in 9.3.

Steve 4102, Thanks for the reply. Where in Minnesota are you from? I was born and raised in Moose Lake. I left there in 1982 and at times I miss it desperately. At other times I can't imagine I really lived there. It's a different world out here. Keep in touch, please.

A new gun is a good reason to get excited.

I grew up on the Iron Range where I still have my hunting shack and I now live in Duluth.
Things are changing fast around here. I'm running out of places to hunt. For decades the major logging companies have allowed anyone and everyone hunting access to their land. Not anymore. They have sold it off to developers or leased it out. These leases and sales have also been gated so access to adjoiniing State and County lands are not accessible either. I have a deer stand on State land that is now about 200ft from a new cabin/house.

Another bullet you might try in the 9.3X62 is the Nosler acubond. I thinks its a 250 grain, might be 260.
I am sure lots of guys would say stick with the 286, and it is a tried and tru ebullet weight if ever there was one.
But in the USA including alaska , if the Question is enough bullet, I am prety sure 250 or 260 grain acubond is a very good answer...tj3006

Check with the State and County governments, I believe this is illegal. I know in Colorado, the leasees would try to bluff you into believing they could do this but, a quick call to the county sherrif dis-abused them of that idea. They are required to give access to government owned land.

I've gone that route with little or no help. I called the county about an 80 acre plot that I used to hunt that is now smack dab in the middle of a privately owned Section. The road is now gated and walking in is out of the question without trespassing. That was 4 years ago and they tell me they are still looking onto it.
The State is no better. I built a couple of stands for my sons on a Section of State land that has been logged off in 80 acre plots over the past 10 years. The access to this Section follows the property lines between State and now private land except for a small bend in the road that intrudes onto a private 40. The owners of this 40 just went and dug up the road. I called the State and asked if there was anything they could do. That was 2 years ago, nothing yet.
I guessing that when the State and the County need to get access themselves for logging or whatever things will change. But for hunting access they don't bother.
