matt_gu3remington 799
If anyone can tell me what they think of the Remington model 799, I am interested in any reviews. I am hoping for actual testimonials from the guys that have actually shot them. I am thinking about one in 7.62x39 for my youngest daughter. she isn't the biggest girl and I don't want to beat her up too bad with recoil.
Any info good or bad would be appreciated.
Thank you, Matt.

vipThe actions on the ones I've seen were not very smooth. I seem to like the CZ actions better. They have a clip which would be a plus in my opinion for a young hunter. Just my 2 cents.

MileHighShooterIf its under 500$ its an ok choice, if its over 500$ then its a rip off. Try searching one of the auction sites for a Ruger 77 in 7.62x39, they used to make them and for the same price or less you'll get a much higher quality gun for your girl

19RomeoA shop in my area has a 799 in 22 Hornet,
very nice looking rifle, but the action could
use some polishing.

x2mosgIf you like the 799, search for an Interarms or Charles Daly Mini-Mauser. It's the same rifle under a different label. I picked one up in fair condition with a cheap scope for $300 a couple months ago. That's a little on the low side, but at $400 for one in decent shape would be much better than $600 for a new one.
Or as MileHigh said, look for a M77 in 7.62x39. I think they may have made it in the ultralight or compact model which would be ideal for a youngster.

hikerbumI have only seen them in one shop. the actions were very rough, but they had huge amounts of grease in them so hard to say how much was that and how much was machining, but I was not impressed. For the $$ buy a Ruger

matt_gu3Wow, not a lot of good to say about these. I guess I will look in a new direction.
Thanx, Matt.
