MickinColoDPMS LR-308
I have a question for you guys. I’ve been looking around at ARs for a couple of weeks now. I was in one of my favorite shops today and came across a couple of new DPMS LR-308s.
My questions are:
What are your thoughts about this rifle?
Is the LR upper and lower the same assemblies as an AR-10?

Dan HMick--
I bought one of those black guns in honor of our presidential election.....
Mine is showing outstanding accuracy potential during its break-in. I believe that 1/2" 100yd groups will be more than possible, but common place. I am planning to upgrade the trigger to something better, but that's the only weak point I see on the rifle. It is also a rifle that deserves target quality optics.....
In short, I am extremely satisfied with the rifle. I previously thought any semi-auto that could shoot 1 MOA was an excellent find--Now I have one that does much better than that. It is making my MP15pc look average and uninteresting by comparison.
Can't speak as to the interoperability with other AR10 platforms, but I wouldn't expect a problem.
Cheers,
Dan

Zoboomafoo_dudeI also bought a DMPS "classic" in honor of our new president. So far I've only shot it with the supplied steel sights. I used 168gr a-max with benchmark and got about 1.25 inch groups without any fine tuning.
The trigger is pretty horrendous, but about what I expected. I plan to upgrade to a timney trigger and put a 4.5x14 zeiss when I have sufficient funds. I've been very pleasantly surprised with the rifle so far.
I bought mine from r-guns; they seem to have the best prices around.

N E 450 No2If you guys really want to see how accurate your 308 rifles are try some Federal 168gr Match ammo.
If you want some accurate factory hunting ammo, try some Winchester Supreme 168 gr Ballistic Silver Tip ammo.
If you 308 does not shoot these 2 ammo's good there is something wrong with it.

WYI bought a LR 308 and sent it back to DPMS due to terrible accuracy. Threw bullets all over the target. Took a while, but the upper was returned with a new barrel and target.
My lower, with a Jard 2# did better than the factory guys lower. Better groups. The new barrel is taking a while to break in.
Have Warne Lever mounts holding a 4.5-14 LRT illuminated mil dot. I'm not a big L fan, but the illuminated mil dot was the deciding factor for this rifle.
Soon a comp/flash unit will be installed.

CollinsThe Remington R-25 is the same rifle. I bought the R-25 as a 243, but bought a 308 upper from a gentleman on the boards here. I will 2nd (3rd?) the accuracy claims here. Mine has a 2 stage Jewell trigger and Nightforce Scope. I am having to FL resize but it's still a great gun. Midway also has 338 Federal uppers (occasionally) available.

mrfuddThe magazines will not fit each other either, so I assume DPMS and AR-10 will not work together..

Dans40XCI prefer the ArmaLite AR-10 rifles over the DPMS/Rem R-25/KAC's for the mag system & 2 stage trigger group superiority.

Hot CoreHey Mick, You trying to get jim (shoot myself completely through the head) zumbo thinking you are a terrorist?

MickinColoHot Core,
I’m thinking about getting one of those “black guns”. I kinda like the idea that it makes Jim nervous. It will look a little odd sitting in the rack with my No.1s and lever actions though.

For several years my 2 favorite deer hunting guns were a Ruger No1 in 45/70, and a H&K 91 in 308...
They got along just fine.

Hot CoreHey Mick, Quite a few years ago I was looking through one of the MASSIVE Gun Shows in Charlotte. Depending on the time of the year it might take 3-4 hours just to walk past all the tables. Went by one and noticed some kind of Olive Drab rifle with a Round Forearm that went around the barrel. Backed up to see what it was and I believe the name was Bushmaster, but that could be wrong.
Asked the guy if I could look at it and of course he gave me the
greenolive drab light.

It was chambered for a 308Win

, which surprised me. But it seemed at least as heavy as the M14s. Seemed well built and had a well built $$$price$$$ to go with it.
Since way back then, I've noticed all kinds of Cartridges chambered in them and way too many manufacturers for me to remember. Looks like a guy should be able to find about anything he wanted in one of them today.
Oneof my buddies has a health condition that may eventually end up with him needing to use a semi-auto for his Hunting. Fortunately the choices are so numerous, the big problem will be picking one out of the herd.
Best of luck on your purchase.

Oh yes, there is a local show on TV that is a 30min advertisement for a local Gun Shop. They actually do comparison Tests between various firearms they sell, fire-proof safes, ammo, flashlights, and such stuff. There seemed to be a narrow $$$price$$$ range when they compared the M16 clones, but each manufacture had something unique about it that was a Selling Point. The only point I remember was one of them had the edges all rounded more than the others. The guy doing the Test said he could tell a difference when he "dove on top of the rifle" on the ground.

So, if you plan on doing that, one of them(I do not know which it is) is better to land on.

Hot Core,
I’m getting too old to be diving on top of rifles without paramedics standing by. I think I’ll pass on that one.

Hot CoreDo they make a Dolly Parton model?
