Pac-Nor
I am looking at Pac-Nor to do a rebarrel for me. I would like to know if any one here has had any doings with them good or bad. Thanks for any information in advance.

May each day bring you at least one pleasure.

A common opinion with Pac-Nor is that they make a great barrel but you should let someone els put it on. I have a 270 they did for me, and I have not been teribly happy, I had them do the work. So my recomendation is that you buy the barrel and take it to someone you trust for the install...tj3006

I have only bought bbls. from them & have been very happy w/ (4) so far. My gunsmith now buys all his bbls. from PacNor unless a client orders something else.

I use them exclusively...

I have had about 7 or 8 rebarreled rifles with Pac Nor barrels... each very very accurate....

Check out there Polygonal twists....I think that is an exclusive of their's... but it has found its way into military use as I understand.. because it is suppose to give longer barrel life also....

for the money... they rack up with the spendy trendy ones in my book...

PS, I have it on high inside authority.... the match grade is just as good as the super match... they just carry it, as their is supposedly some guys that just have to have something that they think they are getting a cut above, and pay a little extra to think they are receiving it.....

I have 4 of them and they shoot with the best of them.

Have over a dozen Pac-Nors and similar number of Shilens, etc.

Pac-Nor people are good to work with and their barrels and work have been top notch. Highly recommend them.

Polygonal bore are not new or exclusive to PacNor. McMillan made them years ago and Gary Schneider still makes them.

There was a report on another board that showed a big difference in barrel life. They barreled two rifles with a pac-nor and a Douglass, chambered in 25-284 I think. Shot something like 1100 identical reloads in the two, then sent the guns to an independant smith for scoping. The Pac-Nor was reported to be heavily worn in the throat and nearly finishe as an accurate barrel, the Douglas with minimal wear.
I know this is just one example, but do any of you with Pac-Nors see any sign of fast wear. My own .270 Pac-Nor hasn't been shot enough to worry about. Yet!

Can you site the web page or magazine where this test was performed?

I was just about to have pac-nor rebarrel one of my No.1's to .30-06, and it will see heavy use.

I would really like to see the source of this information. Thanks.

Not sure if it's allowed here to mention a different site, but it's savageshooters.com front page

I had a very poor experience having Pac Nor install a barrel, rifle sent back without the trigger the first trip, the second trip they packed it very poorly and it rode a hinge in the gun case. After all was said and done it didn't shoot either and I replaced the barrel with a Krieger. They did do a good job from a customer service point by sending me a barrel of my choice for the hassle but I still ended up having to pay Krieger to get what I wanted done right in the first place. I had them send me a 25 cal barrel and my local smith installed it on a rifle and it was a real shooter. I should have had them send me a duplicate of the barrel they installed just in case but I couldn't predict the barrel they installed would be so poor. I don't think I'd have them do any work for me in the future but might use one of their barrels if the price was right.

Bought a used LH Win in .270 blued that was rebarreled and chambered by Pac-Nor, by the previous owner. Contacted Pac-Nor that it did
not shoot to my grade of grade of accuracy.
Less than 1.5". They said send it back and
offered to rebarrel it to the caliber of my choice. So for shipping costs I ended up with a
LH Stainless barrel in 9.3 X 62. Kinda hard
to fault a company that stands behind there
product like that!

Had ULA rebarrel my 7-08 ULA with a Pac-Nor s/s Super Match 5 (?) groove. Great barrel!

I like Pac-Nor very much! I had them barrel a 700 Rem. LA to 6mm-06, and it is a tack driver. I have 2 more projects in the gun safe, and as soon as I can, the actions are going up to Pac-Nor for new barrels etc.

I am very happy with their service and barrels.

Pac-Nor's success comes from damn good advertising.
In a side by side test, I would think Douglas would be as good in the accuracy department and would show better throat life. The rifles I've built using Pac-Nor barrels, have been no better than any other average custom barrels.

I wouldn't screw a Pac-Nor on a match grade rifle. Don't see many of them on the tournament trail.

I also think they are on the soft side. They do machine well, nice steel.

DFC,

You may well be right about accuracy and throat life on the Douglas. It is what I originally had on my ULA. X bullets fouled the heck out of it, even after ULA did a hand lap session with it. My Pac Nor cleans X's with only 3 patches of KG-1. No Sweets or CR 10 needed.

Hello,
As mentioned, don't see many of them on the firing line at long range matches. Early on, there were some who tried them, but soon went back to old std's as Douglas, Krieger, Shilen, some Hart (more benchrest users w/ Hart I believe.)
Have used them all over time, but find for my money, Douglas and Krieger either one will get the job done nicely.
Just my experience.
