For my trip to South Africa in October, i just bought this Sauer S202 Elegance with fluted barrel in 9.3x62.



Fit and finish are 100% and with the 51cm barrel, it handles like a dream.

What a beauty! I dont see anything like that sitting on rack around here. Is it a special or custom order?

I guess there is not much eye relief on those scopes, is that mounted right?

The rings & bases are interesting. Can that front base be used as a rear base and reversed? Who makes the rings and bases?

Good cartridge choice, 9.3x62!

My 9.3x62's got a 20" barrel; your's a tad longer but I've never missed any of the lopped-off barrel and haven't had a bullet bounce off yet.

Apparently someone's Grandma is gonna have to do without her side-table 'cause they used the pretty wood to make your stock - very nice looking piece of wood, indeed. From the photo appears to cut from the same slab, too which is nice because here in The Fatherland you often see many of the current crop of Sauers & Blasers (in standard-grade walnut) where the wood doesn't match. Good On-Ya.

Yes, the scope & mount is correct. Everyone's stance & eye-relief is different, appears Nitehawk shoots with a more erect head position.

I've seen the mounts on other Sauer rifles too -my guesstimation is it's their own proprietary Mounting System as the front appears to be an EAW Pivot and the rear a Steyr Twist release. I'm not too well versed in every offering on the market today - sure someone else can provide better assessment.

The front rings CAN be reversed; adds a whole new dimension to scope eye-relief adjustment. The rear is not interchangeable with the front but EAW offers a cropped or extended rear mount singularly or in conjunction with the cropped front mount as well for the absolute ultimate in scope eye-relief adjustment.

Is that gun fitted with a 2 piece stock?

Wow! Quick response I'm still editing the above but yes, it's a 2-piece stock. Take a close look, Sauer's done a real good job with this; the pieces (seam) hidden underneath the bolt handle.

Nice stick on that rifle! Congrats on a great find. Chances are it will shoot superbly,

The picture is not that detailed, but the rear ring looks like the Blaser "BSM" ("Blaser Schwenk Montage") of days past. It had that "wheel" based twist system to lock and release - as opposed to the little release lever of the EAW. It is often you find the rear base for this type of mount to be a dovetail.

I think somebody else took over the Blaser mount design, after Blaser went to their saddle mount, but it escapes who it might have been? These types of mounts are commonly seen on break-top guns such as Drillings etc.

Duh? Yes, Blaser Schwenk Montage=Blaser Pivot Mount; the same mounts I have on my Drilling with the little "Wheelie-Thingie".

Euro rifle and optics. It doesn't get any better.

What is the largest animal you hope to hunt ?

Good hunting and straight shooting.

Ordinarily I'm not a great fan of the 202s but that looks a GREAT outfit.

Oh man I love those sauer rifles I took my 9.3x62 sauer to zim and kill all sorts of critter including my buffalo. I must ask though is that a custom stock? I have an elegance but i haven't seen a stock that nice on one yet.well done hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

The swingmount system is from Recknagel.
The wood is "grade 4", which is standard for the Elegance rifles, but I have to admit that it had the most beautiful wood of all the rifles in stock.

I'm hoping to get a kudu bull, zebra, warthog, baboon and maybe a zebra bull.

I went to the website too learn more about this rifle design - I was unable to find an explaination of why the stock is split in two pieces. I did read a blurb on the bedding that competely isolates the gun from the wood, but no reason given why the wood is cut in two.

Can someone explain the reason and benefits (if any) of such a design?

It is a take-down rifle. With a separate forearm, it packs into a smaller case for transportation. Fits very nicely within a dufflebag. Once you have traveled like this, it is hard to go back to regular (long) rifle cases.

Strictly speaking, I don't if this is the reason Sauer designed the 200 series with a 2 piece stock, but the small packing footprint is certainly a consequence of this.

I saw a "take down" that broke at the for arm, apparently that model breaks down to three parts and the standard breaks down in 2 parts.

Any ways it looks beautiful and sounds (tech info on web) very well engineered.

Hey fourbore,the other reason for the stock in two parts is so you can change cal's. You remove the front stock undo the screws and you can change the barrel. You will see on the web site that it comes in three different bolt/action sizes therefore anything on a medium action using the same bolt but different barrel and possibly magazine you have a rilfe of multi cal's....hope that helps to?

That 202 Elegance is possibly the most beautiful rifles I have ever seen and in my favorite caliber too.
