Hello , as a starting hunter i am searching for a good rifle for roe deer and wild boar. Which gun and caliber do you think is good?

6.5 swede

7X64mm/7X65R. A 6.5 is great for rehbock, but I would prefer a bigger, heavier bullet on boar. Not to say the 6.5 would not do, because it will, especially with 160-grain bullets....

The .35 whelen is my choice for the criteria you offered.

If possible, use a .308 and don't look back.

I'd also go with the swede. The 6.5s are hard to beat. Otherwise get a 308 or 30-06 and go hunting.

any of the rifles mentioned will work well for what you propose; what i suggest is that you go to a gun shop and find the rifle that "speaks" to you. after that, all you have to do is just get one between 6.5mm and 8mm. i'd suggest a .308 as a happy medium, but any within that range will work well!

9,3x62...better safe than sorry on them pigs! There is a 232gr load for smaller game.

I'm not sure what guns are available in the Netherlands so I'm answering this question based on what is available in the U.S. My personal preference for a bolt-action hunting rifle is the Browning A-bolt. I like the convenience of the detachable magazine, the tang safety, and I like the fact that when the rifle is on "safe" the bolt locks up; preventing the action from opening while you're carrying it on your shoulder. As far as available chamberings in this rifle, I would pick the .308 Win for taking the game that you mention.

If an A-bolt is not available then any rifle in 6.5 Swede, .260 Rem, 7MM-08, or .308 Win shooting well-constructed bullets would be about perfect for the animals that you mention.

Just don't overthink it, it isn't as complicated as some folks would have you believe. Almost any cartridge from 6.5 caliber on up will work.

I'd get a tikka t-3 ss/syn in .308

Either .308 or 7 MM Mag. . Both are very versatile . Excellent ballistics , bullet weights , as well as energy for distance shots . Even if not needed they do a humane kill on most Elk and down size game !.

Boar are no problem for either . A 6.5 will do but bullet weights are limited especially if you don't reload !.
