Old age is a high price to pay for maturity!!! Some never pay and some pay and never reap the reward. Wisdom comes with age! Sometimes age comes alone..

SlamFireBecause the 308 is still a superb target round in match grade M1a's. All the way out to 1000 yards, but I only shoot it out to 600 yards.

Slamfire, I never said the .308 Win was not accurate. I used to have an M1A. Uncle Sam let me use a M14 for awhile, and then they took it away and gave me that damn M16.

dsitemanI can't think of a thing NOT to like about the 308 unless you are going beyond the 1000 yard line and then go on up to the 300 Win Mag. Some years ago w/ NATO testing it was determined that the 308 could well deliver accuracy in the ones. Members of that club are not many.

If I ever manage to get one of these... and if competition is in its future... it will be rebarreled and rechambered for the 260 Rem with a one in 8 twist barrel...

A reporter did a human-interest piece on the Texas Rangers. The reporter recognized the Colt Model 1911 the Ranger was carrying and asked him "Why do you carry a 45?" The Ranger responded, "Because they don't make a 46."

Colek,.. we own a .260 7mm-08 .308 ... well my .260 will do everything that a 25-06 will do and then some.. my 7-08 with a 130 speer will do the some as a .270 from a 24" tube at 3100 fps.
my 24" 7-08 will also do what my .280 will do with a 22" with 140s.
my .308 is running real close to my 30-06 with 150s and they all are short actions.......

mstarlingHell ... I like the .308 Win!!!
It has been said that the only real fault with the .308 is that it doesn't handle heavy bullets as well as the 30-06. If I really need a bullet heavier than 180 gr I'll push it with a .300 Mag ... more performance than the 30-06.
In light or very accurate sporting or target arms the .308 Win does just fine. In semis and weapons of war it has significant advantages over the 30-06.
What's not to like?
