Interesting poll.

In looking I see that you have been a member of the site almost as long as I have, but by the time I joined I had been hunting/hand loading/reloading for almost 40 years.

I voted that the site has not helped me much, if any, as far shooting my rifles is concerned it has had no effect.

I could be wrong but I think the reason a lot of us are members is simply because it provides us an outlet for discussing a subject/group of subjects that interest us that we don't have in our daily lives.

Plenty and I learn a lot from ar members.

The knowledge base of ar on everything guns and hunting is scary good.

It is a great forum, with intelligent content written by people around the world who can at least spell properly. The Lever Gun section is good for me here in the UK, as Savage 99s are rare.

I'm where Crazyhorse is. The site is more interesting to me for reading about what others have that I don't, how they approached working with the firearm and their results. There is some rifles discussed on here that I will never be able to afford and a lot of hunts of the same kind. I'm grateful to those who share their experiences with the rifles and the hunts.

100%. This place is ridiculously rife with knowledge and skill.

If we just voting on shooting ability I voted not much as many here when I joined up I had been shooting, reloading for decades.

If we are talking the over all experience I enjoyed this site a lot.

Well I disagree kindly. By providing your videos to anyone who asks on this forum, people can actually see what good shooting actually looks like not holes in paper.

All good here folks. Target shooters included! Just pointing out that watching a great shooter stand and shoot in the field is a great thing.

I was a life long shooter/hunter and just getting back in to reloading after a long hiatus. I did not have much experience with big-bore's before I joined. Now I have 3 and I have learned some technique for both shooting and reloading for them on this site. Some excellent info on here if you have time to search.

I also have to say that through this forum I have met some great friends that I've shared some great hunts with.
Without the people I've met here I doubt I would have made a trip to South Africa. I have made some life long friends here and I thank everyone that participates here for that.

I agree with Saeed. I am shooting better than when I joined AR but there is no correlation between the two. I'm shooting better because I'm shooting more and competing more. Regards, Bill

I did learn that my groups suck, and my rifle choices suck though.

Even though I've been shooting and hunting for 73 years and reloading for 61 years I must say that the aging process has a great negative affect on my shooting ability. Any additional experience isn't going to correct that.
The shared experience on this forum concerning component , rifle selection , use and loading technique has definitely helped me somewhat in obtaining better repeat ability. There are certain few individuals on this forum whose shared experience and knowledge I trust and accept explicitly,and it has helped in obtaining better repeat ability.

Yup.

If you truly want to know what one learns from AR, one need only look at Mike Dettore's overly lengthy tag line n any of his posts.

Seriously, you can pick up a great deal here, but, IMO, improvement means shooting more. All the knowledge in the world is wasted if not applied.

I have to agree with most in that I was shooting a long time BEFORE the advent of the 'net and learned my skills in the collage of hard knocks...BUT...no matter how much I know, or THINK I know, I learn something new almost every time I visit ANY forum...and sometimes I get reminded of things I have forgotten and NEED to RE-LEARN. The older you get the more stultified and locked in to "I'm a legend in my own mind" you can get if you're not careful.

Choice of ammo

Information on shooting rests - sticks offhand etc

I much rather take short cuts from all of you guys who have done it over and over than try and learn by doing everything from scratch

I'm not sure AR directly improved my shooting but it has opened up a world of information that no other site has. It's also caused me to buy more guns & related stuff I never thought I needed!

Improved my shooting? Not at all. Cost me a lot of money in guns, accessories, and smith fees? Oh hell yes!

Great sight here, but my shooting ability improvement has come from actual shooting.

I went to college on a shooting scholarship. So I can’t say this site has done much to improve my shooting. It has hooked me up with several talented gunsmiths and caused me to spend much money on fine custom rifles I enjoy.

Just to stir things up a little, has AR made you a better hunter/game shot or a better shot from the bench?

My knowledge about guns has greatly improved, but my shooting ability hasn’t. I started working in the oil field right after I joined AR in ‘06. Sadly, I became much more of a gun enthusiast than a shooter and hunter, because I worked all the time. Now that my son is a teenager, I’m working on changing that. Even if I hadn’t changed my hunting and shooting habits due to workload, my membership on AR would have had no effect, either way. Not shooting much the last several years has negatively effected my shooting, especially with single action revolvers. At 44, my eyes are not quite what they used to be, as well. I don’t pick up targets nearly as fast with open sights as I used to.

None. I started shooting with a BB gun and .22 rifle in the 50's. I started big game hunting, bought my first centerfire rifle and centerfire pistols, started reloading and went into the Army in the 60s. I bought my first shotgun and started shooting Trap, bought several muzzle loading rifles and pistols and started hunting with them, and started casting bullets for 3 pistol, 2 rifle, and 3 ML calibers in the 70s. I competed in registered Trap and Skeet shoots in the 80s and 90s, shooting 10,000 or more shotgun shells each year. By the year 2000 I had successfully hunted most of Colorado's and all of Montana's big game animals, and had big game hunted in Alaska and Canada. I also went on my first South African hunt that year, and a second South Africa and Zimbabwe hunt in 2005.

I also bought my first home computer in 2005. By then I had been shooting for 50 years, had a safe full of rifles, pistols, shotguns, and muzzleloaders; I had reloaded and shot 200k shotgun shells, and 10k rifle and pistol shells; and I had successfully hunted 150 or so big game animals in 3 western states, Canada, and Africa.

I found and joined AR in 2006. I enjoy reading AR, I participate a little, and I do learn some things that I wouldn't see elsewhere, but my rifle (and pistol and shotgun) shooting was pretty well set before I first saw AR.

Perhaps in the fact that it has helped me improve my equipment. PD hunting once or twice a year has done more for my accuracy than all the years here.

AR hasn't helped my shooting at all, but it certainly has helped me spend more money on guns, optics and reloading stuff!

The biggest AR positive for me has been interacting with folks that have the same interests in shooting, hunting and reloading that I have.

I have gleaned much valuable information from folks here... That said, I also keep my BS filter turned to the high setting all the time.

I credit AR with greatly increasing my knowledge of reloading, guns, hunting new grounds, gun repair, new components, equipment for shooting, practice methods. By virtue of all this I am a much better all around shooter when I reach the bench or field. The amount of knowledge here is astounding, Thanks Saeed and AR. Good shooting.

Very well said....but I must add that I've also learned to keep out of the political furums..... Actually it was an imposed decision.....thanks Don!
