Remington 700 Police ?
I'm thinking about buying an(other*) accurate .308 Win rifle for target shooting, playing, etc. I already own A 700 Sendero SS fluted bbl. in .300 Win which is quite acccurate, so I'm considering the Rem 700 Police (with HS, alu bedded, stock). Any experience, pro & contra ?

*A few days ago, my wife made a remark about the fact I hadn't bought a new rifle since last year. So, who am I to contradict such a brilliant woman Roll Eyes

3 shots do not make a group, they show a point of aim or impact.
5 shots are a group.

Andre.

Scim bed the action into the stock with devcon, have the trigger tweeked and the muzzle re-crowned........ And it should be a lot of fun.

I have one that for a factory rifle is very accurate. Consistently shoots in the 0.3"s with 155gr Sierra Match bullets. I am very happy with mine.

When I went to the FBI Sniper school at Camp Perry back in the late 1990's. I noticed that 99% of the rifles on the line were Model 700 Police Remingtons in .308 Win. They all seemed to shot very well. However, back then the FBI did use Model 70 Winchesters as there sniper rifle.

I have seen several hundred of the Remington 700 Police rifles shot over the years.

I have never seen a bad one.

My PSS 700 consistently shoots 5-shot groups in the low .3's and sometimes if I flinch just right, in the mid .2's, using plain old 4895 and 168 gr. Sierra MatchKings. That's from my Ransom rest, using the best bench techniques I can muster. I have never shot it from standard hi-power positions such as prone, offhand, or sitting, with or without a sling.

Edited to add: Forgot something important. I DID change out the trigger on mine to a 2 oz trigger, for shooting off the bench. But the local coppers' rifles shoot just about exactly like mine and they have the factory triggers in theirs.

Locally they seem never to have caught on strongly, so other than our P.D. and S.O., both of which use them for precision relieving of crooks of their homicidal or other felonious tendencies, haven't seen many of them fired here. The ones I have seen, however, all performed just about like mine.

I guess my only complaint is not really very valid...they are so consistently accurate that they are boring.

take a look at calling cdnn investments down in texas an purchasing one of their FN SPR rifles. i bought one years ago and it is one heck of a rifle. i have a number of remington 700 rifles, but not a police remington. the FN is a winchester action with a chrome lined barrel good for about 20k rounds. the FBI adopted the rifle about two years ago. made a shot on a groundhog at an honest 504 yards with mine this summer. call cdnn and see what the price is, you might be surprised. one heck of a rifle. wish mine did not have a detach mag.
