Duckster:

The group I shoot with now has 4 CZ'S, they are all shooters. In fact I just ordered a 527 American in 223. The 375 I own shoots 1 inch or less, and has given me several one hole groups at 100 yds, fired with a 6X scope. We have a 223 heavy barrel varmint, that consistantly shoots 1/2" and 2, 221 fireballs, that shoots factory ammo under3/4", we haven't had the time to work up loads for them yet.

They are all shooters!

Buy one and enjoy.

Here's some targets from my CZ50 Varmint .308. At little fuzzy cause I didn't let the camera focus right.

The first at 200 yards. The second at 300 yards. At 300 it opened up a little.

I have a CZ 550 full stock in 7X57, and I love it ! using H-414 my 20.5 inch barrel gaves me 2850 fps, with a 150 grain bullet Before I started to see any sign of preasure , thats cause of the deep throat that allows you to seat your bullets way out there, I have not tried 160 grainers yet , but the post above that talks of the European twist makes me want to try, I will one day buy another CZ, probaly a 300 win or a .375 H&H..tj3006

I have been wanting a rifle in this caliber, and anymore it seems that CZ is the only game in town. I know you can find a few Ruger M77 also but they are getting harder to find. My question is, how is the quality of the CZ 550? I mean, am I going to buy the rifle and then spend a couple of hundred more to get it to shoot well? If that is the case, I would just go with something semi-custom from the start. Any insights appreciated.

There are CZ's and then there are CZ's. Some older ones are superior to anything made today. The new ones I've seen are a bit chunky. That's OK in a 9.3x62 but might be all wrong for a lighter cartridge. Wood to metal fit is nice. I would redo the forend tip but I like the 550 American stock design. There are a lot of threads here on CZ rifles; a search will net you good information.

My 9.3x62 shot well out of the box. If you build a rifle and plan to shoot spitzers, throat it for them, not the 175-gr. RN load. Spitzers don't always shoot well from a long throat. Hope this helps, Okie John.

I only own one CZ.I only bought it because it was available in .222.I only love it because it eeks Quality, is very atractive and shots just great. I've heard very few negative comments about any CZ. Most are attributed to the exposed magazine. Personally it looks pretty neat to me. By far the vast majority of CZ owners think they are just great. My CZ 527 American has a beautifull black walnut stock. The nay sayers probably never shot one. roger

I've seen very few CZ's that did much for me out of the box. A couple of guys on the forum have had the stocks refinished and then they look very fine. You could get a semi-custom, say a Daly Mauser action, Douglas barrel, composite or laminate stock built for around $700-900. Still a lot of money for most of us but that's what I did and have been very pleased because I got it built exactly like I wanted it. I had one built in 7x57(275 Rigby actually) 2 years ago, and another in 458 Win Mag. built last year.

CZ's are excellent rifles and you will be very happy with one. I like them that much I own 5 with a 6th on the way.

roger, I improved the photography a little. From last Friday at 200 yards.
