Help with Tikka/Valmet O/U rifle
I own a Tikka O/U 12ga and just picked up my set of 9.3 X 74 barrels. For some reason, when I put the rifle barrels onto the receiver, it will not close all of the way. (the hood doesn't even go all the way forward). Has anyone ever experienced this or does any "gunsmith" knowledgeable person know the cause and fix? Am I doing something wrong? Thanks for any help you can send my way.
Sincerely,
TBT

dan belisleI have one of the Valmet versions, so I'm hoping someone who knows will chime in on this. Where did you get your barrels, if you don't mind my asking? - Dan

SlingsterI have a Tikka 512SD with the same sets of barrels--12-gauge O/U and 9.3x74R O/U--and they both lock up tight. Sounds like some minor fitting is needed on yours, though that's not supposed to be the case.
BTW, I just acquired a Merkel 140-1 in 9.3x74R and am considering selling the Tikka, if anyone's interested. Contact me by e-mail if you are.
Went to the range today to sight in a few rifles and shoot some sporting clays. While there I spoke with my gunsmith and he said that sometimes they do need some minor fitting, so I left it with him. He said that they are all supposed to fit and are interchangeable, however, that isn't always the case. Reckon I'll have to shoot that one on a later date.
I got my barrels at Ray's in Dallas, Texas. They have a pretty good supply of various barrels in quite a few calibers. If you are interested in any other sets, contact Donnie, Chuck or Tom through their website:
www.rayssportinggoods.comThe only set that I am looking for that if anyone knows where I might pick a set up, is 6.5 X 55 Sweddish.

When adjusting the barrels for regulation, make sure to loosen the muzzle screws first everytime you change something in the vertical adjustment in the middle of the barrel set - otherwise you will create stress and a pressurepoint on the muzzle and they wont regulate or hold regulation..
Found out the hard way (lots of rounds spent, around 300, and long month scratching my had....)
(Forgot to mention - got it to 1" for both barrels in the end

I guess this is the reason wy lots of Tikka 512's are that cheap on used sale.
