NEW Rem 700 Sendero arrived....
I'm out of touch with new Rem 700's as the last new one I bought was back in 1996. But the new .300 win mag Sendero came in today. Twenty six inch fluted SS tube and SS action.

WHAT surprised me was ; NO locking mechanism, and NO 118 word WARNING printed anywhere on the barrel. I thought the new 700's had some sort of bolt lock??

Remington discontinued the "J" lock on all new guns last year.

I bought a Rem 700 CDL last year. It has a small round extrusion on the left side of the bolt that has a "J" in the center. It is right in front of the cocking indicator. That is the "lock". Your rifle should have came with a key that inserts in the "J" that can lock or unlock it.

I have a Sendero chambered in 338RUM that I bought about 5 yrs ago and it has the "J" lock on the bolt but I unlocked it the day I got and have never used it. I don't get what the big deal is about this lock mechanism is. I don't shoot this rifle very often but really like it. It is not finicky about loads and is really accurate. I knew a guy that had a Sendero FS chambered in 300WBY that shot only factory fodder through it and couldn't find any ammo that would shoot in it. Who knows what a hand loader could have accomplished.

Back in the mid 90's Rem. made a few Sendero's
with a Lam. stock in 300WM & a few other calibers. I am very fond of mine & it is very,
very accurate.

I'm giving very serious thought to a Sendero, though 'the one who must be obeyed' isn't keen on the idea. I've found a brand new, old style, Sendero in a store in 7mm RM, and it's very tempting.

The J locks are easily removed and replaced. I've been buying the kits (Gre-tan) from Sinclair International. The way the firing pin spring is bunched up in the J lock versions is horrid. Don't have any J locks left now....

the J-Locks are gone ...if you bought a new Rem with one it was made a couple years ago.

the last VSSF-II I got aint got it and is polished alot nicer and the new palm swell stock is light years ahead of the older VSSF and Sendero stocks.

I hope the keep making the .264 until I can afford one......

FN, If you're not well stocked in .308 bullets I have some I don't use including some TSX's. I also have a wide variety of 7mm bullets. Perhaps a trade for some .338 bullets you spoke of awhile back. I got the rifle and I'm going to get some loads going.
