What Factory Model CF BA Rifles have you all personally had the best experience with in the accuracy department?

Mine are(from best to worst)

Remington Bolts in various configs
Browning Bolts
Weatherby MKV Bolts
Savage Bolts
Win Bolts
Ruger Bolts


I'd have to say the top three have always pretty much been neck and neck IME.

I have really good examples of Savage, Remington and (1) Winchester for out of the box accuracy.

For me the toughest ones to wring accuracy out of is Ruger.

Weatherbys and Winchesters. Over twenty of them, all out of the box MOA and in most cases sub MOA accuracy. jorge

Most of my bolt actions have been customs on milsurp actions. That said I have two rem 700's and two Ruger M 77 mk II's. Not sure if the accuracy comparison is fair as the chamberings are so different, the 700's are a 221 fireball and 243, the Rugers a .308 and 350 rem mag. I'm still working up loads for the 700's, the Rugers have been fine performers. The .308 with factory rem 180 gr rn ammo.



The 350 rem mag w/ handload 57 gr Varget over a 225 sierra.



So far the .243 hasn't been noteably more accurate, and the .221 still needs to be bedded then I can work up loads.

I'm of the personal belief that most factory bolt guns are capable of good to great accuracy if you work up a handload. Factory ammo is a crap shoot.

M700s are often accurate (but often require work such as bedding and trigger job).

Blaser R93s have often been very accurate for me. Here is a target from the latest R93 I did load development for:



Sauer is another brand of factory rifle from which you can normally expect good accuracy right out for the box.

Sakos are not bad either.

In no particular order. They don't need "worked over" after you buy them.

There are several people on this forum that would have you to believe that you can't get the kind of accuracy you guys are showing with a factory rifle.
I have found that I can get most modern rifles to to touch bullet holes and at the least clover leaf groups. It is IMO most modern rifles that shoot over an inch is usually the shooter and not the rifle.

It's hard to say because to really compare rifles you need to own several models in the SAME caliber and twist rate.I had a rem vls in 308 that was extremely accurate and when I rebarreled in a Krieger Palma stainless,it was not as accurate.I also changed twist rates and bullet weight,but have the same dies.I was also able to match this rifles top performance with a one of my Winchesters in 300WM and a hot hunting load.These are two rifles that gave me a spectacular 5 shot one hole 200yd group.The Rem vls did it again and again week after week if I resized my cases in a Redding body die.So,if anyone is into owning a super accurate rifle at a super price I recommend the Rem vls in chrome-moly and 308 caliber.

Despite Ruger's unfavorable reputation for accuracy, ironically, my very first M77 shot factory ammo where 3 bullet holes touched 95% of the time at 100. And that was with Remington 130 Corelokt! Because I was ignorant and thought all factory rifles could do this without any hitch, I traded it for the MK II in left hand when they came out.

Second would be a Browning Abolt composite stalker. Dang, that thing could shoot. Sold it.

I have no experience with any rifles beginning with "S".

Dang! You guys are making me kick myself for not picking up a deal at the local shop a year or so back. It was a Steyr 7RM that looked new (if it had been fired or a scope mounted they were very careful indeed). Guy only wanted 450 I handled it and didn't care for the safety so I didn't buy.

Oh well...

I have had more experience with the Remington 700 than any other rifle. I have seen more that a few very good groups from a factory 700 with hand loads. I have not personally seen the same results using factory loaded ammo. I have a friend that has Savage tactical 308 & that rifle shows promise. I believe that with a little work hand loading it would shoot with my best shooting factory Remington. The Savage appears to be in unmodified condition BTW.
I have had very limited experience with Winchester Model 70's & rifles built on Mauser actions & from that limited experience I am hesitant to give an opinion on these.

My personal favorite is Rem 700s but I pillar bedded a Savage 110 for a friend last year and it shot 1/2" groups so Savages work well as far as I know.

The most accurate I have had experience with are on both ends of the price spectrum.

All my others were sporterized Mausers and they were "Hunting Accurate" - you know, they all shot MOD (Minute of Deer) which is always good enuff for me.
