Seeing if anybody has the early Barnes reloading manual that I could get some load information on. I shoot a 35 Whelen and I have 100 rounds of Barnes 250 gr original bullets. Haven't been able to find any load info. Any help would be really appreciated. I mainly use IMR 4064 or 4320.

I have the Barnes No. 3 manual (2001). I am not a reloader. Don't know if this is any help but,

It only lists the 250 gr. for the XFB & Solid as follows:

XFB & Solid:
IMR 4064 50 gr. 2322fps and 54 gr. 2508fps.

I have the No 1 manual from 1992 and it does t list specific bullets only weights and it does not list that powder at all.

If you want to give me an email I’ll scan the pages for you.

I also have manual 1. The original Barnes bullet is shown but the load data “covers” all styles.
I cans advise that the original Barnes bullet was just a cup and core and the cup was copper not gilding metal so sticky. You should be able to use Speer, hornady published data quite safely though.

It is my understanding that 4320 has been discontinued. If so, developing a load with 4064 might be the choice.

I just checked the current Hodgdon Burn Rate chart and 4320 is not on the chart. That's not a good sign for 4320 users.

I have load data for 4064, but it is 225 grain FB X bullet

55.0 minimum, 2534 FPS 24 inch barrel
59.0 max, 2701 FPS, 24 inch barrel

I have Accurate data for 250 Barnes, but the text says it is the X bullet.

I believe this is a misprint as I do not think Barnes makes an X bullet in 250 grain.

I would make a call to the people at Barnes and ask them for info, very nice people to talk to and you will get straight answers as to which bullet they have worked with or can interchange. good luck

Barnes did make the .358 original X bullet in 250 grain, but they were so long they were impractical. The 225 will do anything you want with a .35.
