I just picked up a weatherby mark v 270 weatherby and cant believe the price of brass.I can get remington bulk brass 7mm weatherby 50 cases for less than 20 weatherby cases. Is this just a simple neck down and shoot or would I be better off buying the weatherby brass?I know its better brass but they think its made out of gold.I would like to get 100 cases of the same lot.Also does anybody have any good loads it seems like the loading manual publishers havent worked up any new data on this cartridge with the new powders available lately.This is great forum by the way

I feel your pain. Remington has made 270 Wea. ammo and should offer the brass somewhere. I keep hearing that Hornady brass can be located on some websites but can't find them either. Let us know if you find any.

Yes, you can easily neck down Remington 7mm Weatherby brass, and no, I doubt that the Weatherby-branded (Norma-made) brass is actually better brass, despite the fact that European-produced brass is currently "in fashion" and American-produced brass is currently "out of fashion".

I remember when Norma brass was so soft in the head area that one firing at 50,000 psi would render the primer pockets uselessly enlarged. (I hasten to add that this was nearly 40 years ago and Norma has long since changed their specs and produces highly servicable brass these days.)

If you can find it you might try Federal brass for the 270Wby, a few months ago I came across 300 and paid 41.00 per 100...also at one time there was a man on ebay selling PMC brass for the 270Wby too..... If you can get the Remington brass for the 7mmWby it works great also, I know of several people who have used Remington brass for their 270Wby's and have had excellent results.... Be sure and try IMR7828 powder& Federal 215 primers.. 3,500fps w/130gr bullet

73.0 grains of H1000 under a Barnes 140 grain X bullet shoots great in a 270 WBY I load for.If you do not mind shooting Federal nickel-plated brass,Wideners had some a while back marked way down.

I once had a 30cal. wildcat on the 7mmWby. case. All i did was neck 7mm Rem. brass to 30cal. and fire it---perfect Wby. cases. You can do the same for any of the short Wby. cases. Maybe the .257Wby. would need the necks turned but the 270Wby. should be a snap.

I could, I guess, neck the 7mm down or the 257 up to 270 Wea. but since I load for all three I would be scared that I would get them mixed up with each other sooner or later. If that thought ain't bad I spent all one morning hunting with a 257 cartridge in my 340!!! I loaded the rifle in the dark and had the correct shells in the magazine. I felt the blood rush out of my face when I unloaded it.
