ReloaderA little paint never hurts...
I just did a few mods to spruce up a cheap old rifle a bit.
Rifle is a Savage 110.
Cheap Mods:
1. New trigger gaurd.
2. Opened barrel channel for 1/8" clearance.
3. Paste Epoxy bedded action.
4. Sanded, filled, primed, painted, and sealed stock. It's the cheap wood factory stock.
5. Cold blued and blended around muzzle.
6. Limbsaver Pad
Turned out pretty good for a cheap factory rifle. A good knock around gun that you don't have too be too delicate with

It shot from .6-.75 with 150 NABs before I touched it. Maybe it'll do alittle better now but, even if it doesn't the mods certainly shouldn't hurt.
Paint job is sort of different but I think it turned out ok. If I get tired of it, I may come up with a different design.
Some steel Redfield bases, a Burris with Ballitic Plex, alittle load developement, and she'll be ready to hunt.

TreeFarmerVery nice looking rifle. What paint did you use on the stock?

Fish30114Reloader, I like it--tiger stripe style!!!
Savages seem to always shoot, that should make a great 'mudder'.... or #1 on the A team.
Good job.

ReloaderThanks guys. Yep, it's an '06.
This is only the 5th paint job I've done on a stock but, it turned out ok. I wasn't really looking for the prettiest stock, I more or less wanted something that was sort of camo and had a unique look as well. Should blend well while in a treestand or ground hunting.
"What paint did I use?" Just cheap Grey Krylon Primer, Flat Black, and Matte Clear Coat. It's fairly simple: Just remove the swivel studs & recoil pad, sand or strip the factory finish, fill the grain & dents with exterior wood filler, dry, sand smooth with fine grit, clean, prime(3 coats drying inbetween), paint pattern, dry, 2 clear coats and that's it. It's very simple and will make that old beater stock come back to life on your bump around rifle.
You can take some thick paper, a pencil, and draw a design. You don't have to be good at drawing(I'm not for sure

). Once you get a design you like, cut it out with a exacto knife and you have your stencil to paint you design after the prime.
You can do this on steel as well. I took My Turkey gun that I had been putting camo tape on for years and removed the old tape. Striped the finish from the stock and sanded all the metal with rough grit to give the paint something to grip. Put on about 5 coats of rustoleum primer. Then, I cut out some pictures of leaves and a tree bark pattern. I stenciled the tree bark pattern on, then added shadows with flat black, and stenciled the leaves in different colors all over the shotgun. After everything was dry I applied about 4 coats of matte clear coat. I've drug that shotgun all through the turkey woods and she's holding up great.
Ya'll have a good one,
