Is 52cm barrel on 8x57IS to short?

I have been offer to buy a Brno M21 8X57IS with a orignal 52cm barrel. What about 52cm barrel and 8x57IS ? Is it to short?

That would be about 20".

No I do not think it is too short.

I have hunted with many 308 rifles with bbls from 18 to 20" and with a couple of 375 H&H's with 19.5 to 20" bbls.

They shot just as good at 300 yards as did identical longer bbled rifles.

In fact I have shot some 18" bbled 308's to 600 and 800 yards a fair amount.

My favorite bbls for my Blaser R 93's are the Tracker's, at 50cm.

I killed a javilina at 412 yards with the 308 Tracker, with a 4X BDC scope.

Just fine . No problem. A fella I knew when, used a 30-06 with an 18" barrel and scored as good or better than I did with a 24" barrel.
