Anyone on here using a Howa/Hogue rifle ? Just ordered a 300Win Mag and wanted feedback on them. The price for this setup seems very resonable, and if it doesn't shoot, I could always rebarrel it.

i have one in 223 rem after adjusting the trigger life is a one hole group...for now

My Vanguard in 30-06 (made by Howa) has done me well for several years. Even though the company mandates it shoot a sub-1/2 inch group at 100 yards, I have, with handloads, quite often kept (most) groups under an inch. It shoulders and points better than my other bolt rifles.

But how is the quality of Howa/Vanguard lately? Anyone?

Ok, my mistake...Weatherby said it should shoot 1-1/2 in groups at 100yd, not 1/2 in. That would be a varminter class rifle, my bad.

Not too long ago I bought a Howaby Stainless Sporter in 257 Wby. It is very accurate and the quality is quite good for a rifle at 500 bucks. A little adjustment of the trigger and it was good to go. I've heard some have a bit of creep in them but mine was very good. It shoots clover leafs with little effort. It does heat up rather quickly but that is expected with this cartridge.

My bro has a Howa 1500 Lightning with the SS and lam thumbhole. A few months ago he put it on the Hogue stock, ordered directly from Legacy. Its a very nice stock IMO, its a bit hefty for a synthetic, don't expect a McMillan or H-S Precision, but still very nice. We shot it this last weekend, seems to be right on spot to its old groups, which is to say quite impressive for a <500$ gun

Thanks for the replies. I like the feel of the Hogue stock, I think it would be easy to handle in any weather conditions. Buying the Howa/Hogue package was cheaper than buying seperate components. I would have prefered a Rem 700 action, and added a Hogue stock to that, but it would have been almost $300.00 more complete.

I think you'll be quite impressed with the Howa. They are very accurate rifles, and well made. My gunsmith said he loves working on them as well, just as easy as a R700. If you handload, be very careful when approaching book max velocity, and also be careful if using Fed Premium or Hornady Heavy Mag ammo. From what I have seen and talked about with a few people, they don't take the high end of the pressure scale as well as some others. Might be a tight chamber?

And for those that are interested I also see that the Howa/Hogue is now available in .375 Ruger.....

Very happy with my stainless 7mm WSM Howa 1500 on a light green overmoulded stock, just a little surprised it has rust spots here & there, while my Sako .270 in blue is totally rust free! bye the bye, I hear the arms co director has resigned over the obama thing?

Could you elaborate on what you meant by saying "they don't take the high end of the pressure scale as well as others ". Are you referring to the action not being strong enough for max loads ?
