4WDPlains Game .300 mag 200 gr - Nosler, Swift ,Barnes?
Been a Nosler Partition fan in the .270 Win - .340 Wea . I have been able to get great accuracy from the NP's in all but a finicky .300 Win Mag & .280. Also every animal where I did my part the NP's have anchored the animal with quick kills.
I have been reading about the Barnes and Swifts.
Some of you guys who have been pulling the trigger a lot lately, what are your results accuracy wise and kill results on plains game?
I may be wanting to develop a new load and I am curious of the best options today.

MARK H. YOUNGI had great luck in a custom 300 WM with 180 SAF. Killed a lion and lots of PG with it. In the last few years I had excellent luck with the Barnes TSX in almost every caliber.

AtkinsonThe 200 gr. Nosler accubonds and the partitions are the only bullets Ive use in the 300s for the last 30 plus years, with an ocassional 180 gr. to remind me just how good the 200s really are..I even use the 200s in my 30-06 these days. They shoot as flat, they shoot as fast, and they kill better, even in the 30-06..

Why change? Every premium bullet out there seeks to mimic the performance of a Nosler Partition (or, when unable to mimic that performance, convince you that some other kind of performance is somehow superior.) If a Partition shoots well in your rifle then by all means don't go looking for something that is (perhaps) just as good.
There's nothing wrong with the .30/200, but it won't do anything that the .30/180 won't also do while providing slightly more favorable trajectory. My two hunting partners both used 180 Partitions (.300 Win and .30-06) on African plains game and took everything from baboons to kudu to zebra with them -- all showing fully adequate performance. I happened to be shooting a .338 with 225 partitions, but my animals fell no deader than theirs.

kda55Play with your powder, not your bullet. Bullet is just fine.

vapodogPrior to switching to monometals, I was a fan of SAF.....an absolutely excellent bullet.

graybirdI've used both the 180 gr Partition and the 180 gr Barnes TSX on PG.
The Partition was used on my first trip and killed everything from warthog to blue wildebeest.
The TSX was used on my 2nd and 3rd trips across the pond. Killed everything from duiker to kudu. Most all one shot kills.
Recently, I switched to the 175 gr Barnes LRX bullets. Reason for the switch is because the rifle has been extremely picky about load development. I never got the accuracy I was happy with from the Partitions, which prompted the switch to Barnes. The Barnes 180 gr TSX gave me about 0.75" accuracy at 100 yards and the 175 gr LRX has shrunk my groups down to about 0.5" consistently.
The best advice I've ever received from my gunsmith regarding the 300 Win Mag was this. "72 grains of any 4350 powder with a 180 grain bullet should yield about 3100 fps and give acceptable accuracy. If it doesn't, then something is wrong with your rifle." I've found IMR-4350 is perfect for the above statement and the bullets I've used in the 300 Win Mag.
Good luck!!!
