I'm not really sure where to post this so here is where I chose. I was playing on the internet last night and kept seeing kits to get an FFL. I am not a dealer or gunsmith, but I do like the perks of getting guns for cheap and being able to place orders for parts/actions for personal projects.
For those of you that have one. Is it worth it to get an FFL?

GSSPGot mine a little over 5 years ago. It's been "ok".
$100 for city business license 1st year.
$50 to renew each year.
$30 for fire extinguisher (required by city)
$450, IIRC, for FFL.
$90 to renew FFL each 3 years.
Every, and I mean every firearm that comes into your possession for more than 24 hours HAS to be entered into your "bound book".
Sometimes I can buy components cheaper from retailers than through the wholesalers; especially powder due to the $20 Haz Mat fee.
Will I renew this next summer; most likely.

Don MarkeyLook into it with the city first. I can't get one because it is a business license and it is a violation of the zoning ord to run a business out of a residence. I would have to buy a commerially zoned building. Your cleo has to inspect the premises an sign off on it before you can get one.

brucekYou need a storefront with regular hours or you are out of luck. They will not give you a license if you don't have one. I got mine 2 years ago and it has been great, BUT, it is an addition to a business I all ready have. There are lots of regs and you have to let them search your premises any time they want, this includes your home. They can do this once a year. It also takes time. Mine took 7 months, I have a friend who applied at the same time as me and he still doesn't have his. In answer to your question, yea I bought the kit, but the same thing is available right from the BATF for free.
