How are they?

Found a new one for $650, thinking about giving it a try.

How do they feed?

Are you looking at the model 7 version, or the 700 version?

Not sure, I figure with the M700 I can upgrade the stock and install a AICS kit and be happy.

The M7 is a cute little bastard and I love m7s but sometimes they feed like horseshit.

I should have also asked you if you planned to suppress it...

I'm not a fan of the Houge stock. My 700AAC in 308 was, at best, an inch and a half gun with my best handloads when I first got it. After bedding it with marine-tex it shoots everything under an inch, except my handloads which are under a half inch.

The triggers are crap. Replaced mine with a Timney. The "black Oxide" finish is crap. Rusts much easier than other finishes. Cerakote fixed that.

I have recently found out that the makers of my favorite subsonic 300blk ammo have had reports of stability issues with their ammo in Remington 700s.

I have had a Model 7 Stainless in 308 for almost 20 years and have never had any issues with feeding.

I still own over a dozen Remington rifles, but if I were doing a 300blk I think I would try to find a 700 chambered in 223 and restock/rebarrel it.

That is kind of what I had feared, that I wouldn't be happy after spending $650 on the rifle. I guess I'll just build a 700 in a 300 Whisper on a 223. Or a Tikka.

look at AAC themselves.
they rebuild the Remington for you and it only costs about $200 bucks more.
they come with a 7 twist 16" barrel with the end threaded for a can.
I have one and love the little thing it's like a dainty little carbine.
so far I have taken 230gr cast bullets down to 3.5 grs of pistol powder, and 110 gr hornady V-max's up to a bit over 2400 fps.
I have also shot some 165gr cast bullets at 1350 fps so far all of them have been stupid accurate at 50 yds.
the 110's will hold under an inch easy at 100 yds.
I think the little rifle would shoot more accurately off the bench if it wasn't so light.

My wife uses a Contender with a 300 Blackout for hogs. She has several exit holes on the buggers she has put in their necks and hearts.

Why not just get a 6.8. It will do WAY more than any Blackout/whisper ever thought about. Has the same level of compact portability and low recoil as the others, without the added disappointment of poor bullet performance.

Before all the crying about "I've done this, or I've done that" from others that hunt with the twins, I will qualify my statement. I am a proffesional hog hunting guide in GA (JagerPro), and I have numerous first hand negative experiences with those .300's. Granted, it was all on hogs, and they are tougher than deer, but unless you are only taking head shots, you will be disappointed.

My feelings as well. I have a 700 SPS tactical. If I had it to do again, I put a bit more in a rifle to get a one with a decent, free floating wood stock. I have another recent thread about dealing with the rubber stock.

I'm not sure it is $400.00 or so better than a Ruger American.

There are plenty of after market parts for the 700 though. I bought a Timney trigger set at 20 oz (not for hunting). I recently bought a Picanney rail that I have not installed yet.

The chamber dimensions are tight, I guess to improve accuracy. I have bought ammo that wouldn't chamber. I wouldn't recommend loading up on ammo that I didn't try first. Remington ammo, and my reloads re-sized work fine though.

Subs suppressed are a real hoot. With a bolt gun you don't have cycling issues. I use 125 gr and 150 gr jacketed soft points with Little Gun powder for supers and subs suppressed. 980 to 1,010 sub and 2,200+-15 for supersonic 150 gr bullets. The bullets just depend on what I can find at a reasonable price that are not pulls.

We have 2 of the 700s....they work great.

I didn't know until today that the 300 Whisper is available in the Ruger American and it has really good reviews.

So that's what I am going to do. Worse case scenario I throw it on the gunshow table and lose $50.

I think I'd go for a 300 Blackout instead of a 300 Whisper. There is a bit of difference. It has to do with load data and SAMMI specs. The Whisper is considered a wildcat round.

I've had my eye on a 6.8 upper for my 5.56 AR. A person does have to have different mags though as 5.56 mags won't work. I'm not aware of any bolt guns in 6.8 spc.

Reloading, from my brief research when I had the hots for a 6.8 a few years back, it uses .270 bullets. Don't know about brass availability.

You might want to check that with SAMMI, I believe you might be mistaken.

The only reason I brought this up was you mentioned trying to sell your rifle if you were not satisfied. If someone sold me a Whisper and it was supposed to be a 300 BO, I'd be pzzd. Same true if I wanted a Whisper and it was a 300 BO.

I've seen headstamp on brass the same but not rifles marked the same except Smith & Wesson's M&P. In a way, it is kind of like the .223/5.56 thing. Most bolt guns are marked just .223. There are a few that are marked .223/5.56. It has to do with SAMMI specs for the chamber, not the round. There may be some Whisper/Blackout bolt guns out there but the Ruger you mentioned, if it is like the one I looked at, is not one.

I have the REM AAC-SD in 300BLK and mine shoots great. I haven't shot a lot of bullets through it, but the 125nbt's shoot great and the 190 Berger vld hunting bullets loaded subsonic shoot great also. I've only used H110 as that is all that I have on hand. I had the S&W M&P before abd it shot fine, but nat as good as the Rem.
