Range report: 300WSM Savage 16
Hey all!

FYI:

Just wanted to pass along for anyone who has wondered about the Savage 16 300WSM; I bought it off of Gunbroker a few months back, loaded up some mild 150 gr Sierra loads just to check functioning etc. I did not adjust seating depth, charge weight or anything and I am absolutely stunned at the accuracy. I shot (6) 3 shot groups and all were under an inch and (2) were at just over 1/2". Maybe I just hit the "sweet spot" with these loads but I am always amazed at how well Savage rifles have done right out of the box.....(I ain't givin' up my 700's yet....but......)

If anyone has been considering such, they have at leat my meager reccomendation......

With a little bit of load work, maybe yours will shoot .25 MOA like mine!! Aren't those Savages amazing?? Try setting the bullet back from .050"-.070" . Mine did not like to be seated close to the lands and the accuracy really tightened up as I seated the bullet deeper.

A question . What is the length of the magazine box on the Savage short action , and specifically , one in WSM ?

According to my micrometer its about 3.03"....

For all the good and bad said about Savage the one thing that seems to stand out is that all the modern (last 10 years or so) models are probably the most accurate mass produced rifles made.
