bchur.338 or 9.3x62
Guys if you will permit me one more question, what would be your choice, .338 or 9.3x62 and why? Again I appreciate your taking time to answer.

vapodogIf one is referring to the .338 Win Mag, and the distance is controlled to 300 yards and the targets are bigger than deer size animals then I'm going to take a 9.3 X 62 simply for the reduced recoil.
About the only place the .338 WM shines is when one wants to stretch the range as it'll carry a lot of energy all the way to 600 yards if you can shoot that well.
The last .338 WM I owned was sold to Mississipian here on the classifieds.....a fine gun but punishing as hell to shoot from a bench. The 9.3 isn't at all that hard on the shooter and can also carry a lot of energy but I'd confine myself to 300 yards with it......and that's still a very long ways for anyone!

Captain Finlander+1 I have shot the 338 off the bench and though tolerable I didn't enjoy it. I would consider the 338-06 over the 9.3x64 because it offers better trajectory and plenty of power.

BarstoolerI would take a 338 RUM, a 338 Win Mag, or a 338-06 over the 9.3 anyday.

You might want to re-read that one.

mstarlingI own rifles in both chamberings. My rule of thumb is that I tend to use the 9,3x62 at ranges less than 300 yards.
The 9,3x62 just works ... often reqarding a decent shot with at DRT.
At ranges 300 yards or longer the higher velocities and higher BC projectiles of the .338 WM delivery more accuracy as a result of less drop for me. Could be that my .338 WM tends to make about 2" at 300 yards.

WstrnhuntrI consider the 9.3X62 a very usefull cartridge, for Africa! For American game the 338-06 makes more sense to me.
Actualy I should qualify that statement. The 9.3X62 would do a bang up job on Bison, moose or virtualy any bear. Otherwise I give the nod to the 338 variation for its flatter trajectory.

Yes, the 9.3x62 is what I meant to type!

grizz007a one-gun man would do well with the .338 win mag, here is this recoil thing again about the .338.....it is not bad, I've 2 in my home and been shooting them since I was 16 yrs old. I like the 9.3x62 for anything less than 250yds.....I'd say for in close hunts for the majority of the time the 9.3 gets my vote.
