Terry Blauwkamp200gr Speer Hot Cores in 30-06
Any body ever use them on game?
My 25" Shilen shoots them quite well with 58 gr of Rel 22 at 2600+.

AKBmanShot a caribou at 175 yards with one 2 years ago, it dropped on the spot, bullet completely penetrated on a broadside shot, found no fragments. This was from a .300 Win mag.

rickt300I have used this bullet on elk from both the 30-06 and 300 Win mag with excellent results. I highly reccomend it. Oh yeah I shot a big black bear with one out of a 308, broke both shoulders and exited.

snowmanThe 200 Speer is an excellent bullet in the 30-06. I've taken several moose an elk and a couple black bears. They penetrate very well @ 06 vel.For the 300 mags a partition would be a better choice but for the 06 this is all the bullet you need.

<eldeguello>200 grain bullets are excellent in .308 caliber cartridges. I believe I'll try the new Nosler bonded core type. These have a B.C. of .58!!

beemanbemeThe first couple of elk I killed was with a 30-06 using a 200gr partition. When I decided I had to have a dedicated elk gun, I went with a 300WM using 200gr grand slams.

Terry BlauwkampI took a few 200 Speers to the range this weekend, and was very impressed with them on paper.
With 58 gr of Rel 22, they averaged 2600, and shot nice 3 shot groups.
Will try them again next week along with a few 200 Sierra BT's
If they shoot that well again, I'll take them with me in May.
Terry
have you considered trying some of the 200 gn woodleigh proj

Savage99I like that bullet and keep my rainy day rifle sighted with it. It's an old Sears Mauser and it shoots that bullet into about an inch at 100.
I suppose that load is ready for most thin skinned game.
I just tried some RL 19 in it. It's been too cold to bother with the chrono. Mine is the improved version. Just another one of my impetuous rifle mistakes. Smith did a good job however.

WstrnhuntrI tried some of these in my Savage 110 30-06 and unfortunatly accuracy went to hell in a handbasket, it does like 180 grn Hornadys though.
I want to try some 180 grn Speer Deep Shocks in that gun.

Terry BlauwkampI'm off to the range here shortly, so report in Monday my results.

<Terry P>Terry,
I'll be interested in your results. I have a 30-06 with a 25" Walther barrel that should be ready in a few weeks. I'd like to try that bullet.

RatltrapGreat '06 bullet for black bear. My 22" Rem 700 likes a max load of W760 better than RL22 for 1 minute accuracy at ~2500 fps. Let us know if you try other loads.

Terry BlauwkampHad a great day on the Saturday, just before it started to rain.
The 200 gr Speer in my 25" Walther with 58 gr of Rel 22, in WW brass and CCI 250 primers were great again.
Shot a great 2" by 1.75" group at 200 yards. Velocity was just ovr 2600 fps.
At 100 yards, the 3 shots groups hover just at 1"
so it looks like these are going along next trip.
POI is the same as my 180 gr loads with 59 gr of Rel 22.
