350 Rem Mag available again!!!
Saw in a magazine today (Guns & Ammo?) that Remington is coming out with a Model 673 in 350 Rem Mag in the next year. Supposd to be a knockoff of the old models 600 & 660's. Article also said they would be offering factory ammo again in 200 gr Corelokt's.

Rather see the 225 or 250 gr loads, but it will be nice to be able to get ammo for my 350 Mag off the shelf again. Sometimes I just don't have time to do the reloading.

Hello Mac,

I read an article about the 673 in Shooting Times a couple days ago. Are you sure that the new ammo offering is 200 grains? I thought it was a 225, and the old offerings were 200/250?

Regards, Bill

I'm pretty sure the new loads will be in 200 gr. That was the last factory loads available when Remington quit loading for the cartridge. I got a Model 700 Classic in 350 Mag and grabbed every box of shells I could find. Never did see a box of the 250's even though I know they were made. Personally I like the 225 gr bullets from Woodleigh in my rifle, but will get a few boxes of the new shells to see what they do.

Both articles (ST and G&A) stated that the factory load would be a 225 Swift. However at the end of the G&A article there was an editorial note that said that as they were going to press Remington announced that due to unsatisfactory accuracy the 225 was to be dropped and the new loading would have the 200 gr Core-Lokt. I believe this model 673 also comes with a 22 inch barrel.

I know what's on my CHRISTmas wish list. Err, make that an addition to my wish list.

I missed the 600's when they came out - I'm NOT missing this one.

Glad to see the 350 Rem. Mag. back again. Too bad it is in a POS rifle, though. Can a rifle get any uglier? Good job, Remington! [Big Grin]

I was recently looking at a Husqvarna someone had re-done to 350 Rem Mag. Passed on it, in part, because of ammo availability. Hmmm.

I think they could have had a pretty nice rifle in the 673 but why in the world did they have to keep the vent rib barrel? Leave it for the shotguns, thanx.

As ugly as both the 600 was and the new 673 is, the shame on Remington is not that they retained the ugliness but that they made the new rifle nearly two pounds heavier failing to live up to the true legacy of the 600.

In true American manufacturer style, Remington has done something right and something wrong.

Right: They actually used the Model 7 action rather than the old 600. The Model 7 is shorter and lighter (and hopefully the sear doesn't drop the firing pin when the safety is disengaged like on the old 600!)

Wrong: Godawful vent rib (but you can detach it and throw it in the garbage bin). Barrel too long for a true carbine, but again, you can chop it off (if shooters wanted a .35 Whelen, they would just buy one). Stock too bulky (that takes a little more doing, but I suppose you could adapt a Model 7 stock).

Wrong again: Why not juice it up a little and ALSO offer it in a .35 caliber on the SRUM case? They could at least beat the WSM line to the punch on one cartridge/rifle combo.

Super wrong: 673 is a poor designation for any model of anything; no rhyme or snap to it. I guess somebody reasoned that it was a reincarnation of the model 6(00) using a model 7 action and introduced for (200)3.

I read some more last night about the 673 and the 350 mag. When I first saw the picture I went yuk - that shark fin front sight - but the more I look at it the more I want one. Its unique, 20" barrel lenght to me is perfect for this round - reloads had almost 2800 with 225 NP - thats encroaching on 338 mag performance. Metal rib and trigger guard/magazine sure beats the plastic 600 stuff - as I get older, power in a lightweight short handling package is a plus - and the best part is the stock is wood. I know when my dealer gets one my wife is in for some special goody. My dad had both a 350 and 6.5 model 600 when they first came out - he regretted selling the 350 long before they became collector status. - I'm beginning now to understand why.

i've been away for a little, but had info on this rifle for a while.
yeah, that rib is ugly, yes, the front sight is even worse.
but yet, i want one? why?
give me that rifle in a laminated stainless in 350 rem mag and i'd be happy.
guess this is the only 350 i'll be able to buy under 1000 bucks.

I use a 350 for a lot of my hunting and you couldn't ask for a better cartridge within 250-300 yards. I think it's great that Remington is bringing it back. - dan
