358 Bullet for deer
Have you tried any of the 296gr. cast bullets yet? beerroger

Old age is a high price to pay for maturity!!! Some never pay and some pay and never reap the reward. Wisdom comes with age! Sometimes age comes alone..

For years I have used 240 or 270 grain Northforks for larger game. I also use 225 grain Sierra Gameking for Deer sized game or anything comparable in size with my .358 STA's. There are many good .358 bullets on today's market including the Nosler's and Barnes TSX that will work, pick what your rifle likes. Good Shooting.

The best thing I have found for the Whelen or ANY caliber/rifle I have ever shot, is find the bullet the Rifle likes the best and stick with it.

Even the rocks don't last forever.

I shot game once with crazyhorse's 35 Whelen using 225 Barnes bullets.

I am still using that bullet/load and it still works.

Nope. Am still working on building a little shop to reload in. What was the problem with these for you? Couldn't stabilize them? Mine has a 14 twist...think that will work?

oldThere was no problem. They performed just great. As my age increases my tolerance to recoil decreases. The rifle I shot those in had a 16" barrel and when I fully loaded those 296 gr. bullets the jet thrust was not comfortable.
The recoil would be a 7# rifle hitting you at 17 ft/sec. That may not seem like a bunch but it is.

I am sure it hit hard! I will load these up when I get the rifle..it is being built and almost finished. It will have a 22 inch barrel, so I am hoping that will tame the recoil!

225gr. Sierra GK BT works great for me in .35 Whelen and see no reason why it woudn't do as well in the .358. My go to powder is IMR 4064 it produces 3 shot cloverleaf groups at 100yds..
