Bear and bullets in a 300 Weatherby M
Hello all.

Going bear hunting in Romania these fall with my 300 Weatherby M.
But, bullets, what to go for?
180 gr Barnes, 200 gr A-frame, 200 gr NP, 220 gr NPSP, 240 gr PPSN from Woodleight?

All tip is welcome.

Have a good day.

Thanks.
Yes, the one my rifle likes best. But, is the deeper penetration from a 200+ bullet needed on bear, these bears are grizzly sized.

Have a good day.

A 200g bullet in a 300 Bee is a lovely thing. I'd take the 200g A-Frames if they shoot well in your rifle.

NMh,

Any of those bullets mentioned will work fine. My personal favorite would be the 200 Nosler Partition.

Same choice as Mark said or the Barnes TSX.

Really I think the advice to use the one your rifle prefers is likely the best answer. They are all good choices.

For Romanian bears I think I would recommend the bullets in the same order you listed them

Anyone who claims the 30-06 is ineffective has either not tried one, or is unwittingly commenting on their own marksmanship

Thanks for the reply all.

Have been out on the range today, 200 gr Nosler PT did give the best groups followed by 180 gr TSX. Will do some more testing, but guess I will go with the Nosler PT.

Size, well I have been told they are more or less the same as an mountain/interior grizzly.

Have a good day.

Im sold on the 200 gr. Nosler partitions for anything big and rowdy..They have been my choice in Africa for many years now..but all the bullets you mention will work just fine. Maybe just use the one that shoots the best?? I have a great respect for the 200 gr. Woodleigh also..I have found the 180 and 200 gr. Nosler to out penetrate all the bullets mentioned, but not by an awful lot.

I used the 200 gr. Nosler Partition Roundnose to take my 91/2 ft. Brown Bear at Cold Bay Alaska. I was so impressed with the performance I bought every box of the bullet I could find for years. They also make a fine Elk bullet. I would also consider the Northfork bullet and use the best shooter in your rifle. Good shooting.
