Head Trauma7x57 M70 limited edition 2013
For all of the 7x57 loonies out there, Winchester appears to be producing a limited run of 7x57 featherweights for 2013, about $900.
Hope these shoot better than the long-throated ones they made a while back, the one I had was a terrible shooter but some folks had good luck in making then shoot OK.
Saw one of the current ones listed on the Guns International site

ColoradoMattUntil just a few weeks ago, the website erroneously listed the 7x57 featherweight as having a 26 inch barrel. That would have been interesting to me.

Heed the words of Winston Smith in Orwell's 1984:
"Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right."

Anyone know what the twist rate is?
29 April 2013, 18:04
olarmyThe website says 9.5" (see link above). But it also says the magazine capacity is 3, which I doubt, since the mag capacity for other std cals is 5.
BTW, this is not fair. We 257 fans had to wait til October last year to get our Bobs. This year's specials are available in the spring!

The 9.5" twist rate should be great for heavy bullets. Needs sight, though.

Well, mine should arrive at the end of the month, so I have to start thinking about loads and I'm looking for bullet suggestions. I'll try out a few and when the rifle and I find one we both like I'll stick with it. I expect to use the 7x57 on good sized deer at ranges from 20 to 250 yds but mostly 70 to 100 yds. I like heavier bullets and something that you can rely on from any angle if you need to.
Here's a story to illustrate what I like. A few years ago I shot a decent sized mulie buck with a 150gr NP out of my .270 win. He didn't drip to the shot, so I hit him again (The first shot was fine and if I'd waited a couple of seconds he'd have fallen over dead). The second shot entered the back of the left hind leg, broke the thigh and carried on out the front of the leg. It them entered the paunch, went through the full stomach and the heart. The bullet carried on to break the front shoulder before coming to rest against the hide. I didn't need to take that shot, but want to know that the bullet I'm using will do just that if needed.
To me, NPs seem a natural place to start. I've never used Accubonds but think you can trust then too. I don't think I want anything as hard as an A-Frame just because I don't think they'd open as fast as the others. Having said that, I like A-Frames in my .375, but have never used them any other rifle.
What are your thoughts?

lonewulfHave a look at the link below. I think you'll find the information it contains quite informative. Since reading through this stuff I've begun using the Hornady 7mm (.284) 162 grain A-Max ballistic tip bullets in both of my 7x57s. I've found it to be an excellent bullet for hunting.

Head Traumaalabama ed..
What kind of groups are you getting with it?
Does it handle heavy as well as light bullets OK?

alabama edWith 140 Accubonds over H4350 1" groups and with Hornady 175 Sp or RN over RL22 three in a ragged hole. Scope is Leupold 1.75-6x32 with Leupold mounts. Brass is win?
Rifle is very much a keeper.
