That will be an excellent platform for teaching young or new shooters the ropes.

It's about like using a 30-30 on deer.

Elk, it's what's for dinner..

Same rifle is offered in the 6.5 Grendal... I think that would be better yet for a young shooter. Less recoil, better trajectory, and plenty for medium game... No cheap bulk surplus ammo for plinking though.

G'Day Fella's,

Thank You for your comments.

FYI, I'm left feeling the action will need to be epoxy bedded into the stock.
Also, I'm having problems locating a Picatinny type scope base/rail for the new Mini action. Warne and Talley make them but my usual suppliers are out of stock.
As soon as I have this and mount up a scope, I'll shoot some groups and report back.

I have to say, after being very happy with the rifle so far, I'm wondering if I may need one in 6.5 Grendel as well?

Merry Christmas
Homer

The only negative I have for these rifles is the mag release. I plan on trimming the lever shorter. You WILL bump the lever and drop the mag on the ground.

G'Day Fella's,

Matt Salm, I agree with you on this.
I was thinking of making an alternative mag release for mine, I just nee to put some thought into the (regarding the shape....possibly an L shape?).

Merry Christmas

I was thinking the same thing. Mount a release between the mag and trigger guard that would catch on the solid rib that wraps around the mag. You would pull towards the trigger to release. I think there is enough material to inlet one into the plastic.

Matt, I've done some more thinking about this mag release modification.
What I may do, is make up a cover or shroud that is mounted to the angled face, forward of the mag release? This device/shroud would have a "C" shape that would extend down just below the bottom of the release and on both sides of it as well?

I'm a bit busy with money making things at present, so this is on the back burner for the present time.

We do Ray but they don't sell firearms.
People have to go to a firearms dealer like me, to purchase and sell firearms.

Homer,
I forgot about your legislation, the liberals just never seem to quit, and violence never quits with gun regulation, it quits with prison sentences and heart shots! Smiler

So far we've kept them at bay, God willing we will continue to do so..

G'Day Fella's,

Ray, from what I heard and read of President Trumps great inauguration speech, I think you should be safe........at least from the politicians themselves. The Dumbocrat supporters, are another thing!

I was away bush over the weekend, and chrono'ed a few loads in my Howa Mini, 7.62x39 rifle.

All the below handloads were charged by 27.0 grns of ADI AR-2207, CCI BR2 primers in Lapua cases.

Hornady Z-Max 123grn bullets (0.310"), averaged 2462fps.
Taipan 124grn HP bullets (0.3095"), averaged 2474fps.
Speer 130grn HP Moly coated bullets (0.308"), averaged 2431fps.
And
Wolf factory 122grn HP bullets, averaged 2401fps.

This was from the Howa Mini's 22" barrel, at a temperature of 27*C and 10 feet from the muzzle to the Oehler 35P's first screen.

I'm hopeful of being able to safely achieve 2500fps average, with at least one of these loads but I want to be able to maintain the great accuracy I have so far.

Doh!
