Texican338-378 Weatherby
I am very interested in this cartridge. Does anyone have experience with it? I would be using this to hunt elk and moose. I also have an invite to hunt brown bear next year. Would this be a good choice for all three or should I look at another round for these endeavors? Thanks in advance for your advice.

she'll do what ever you ask it to. I've taken both elk and moose with it. A buddy has shot a moose and brown with his. We both use 240gr Northfork bullets. Great gun with great bullets.

JamieTex.
A local gun smith here has been building 338/378's
with long heavy bbl. These guys are hitting things out to 1200 yrds. One guy I know shot a bear at 400 yrds through the guts, it gutted the bear. A 338/378 might be a little overkill but sure would be fun. I've been looking at a weatherby
accumark for a while( I cant afford a custom) but I've read a few posts that had bad things to say about weatherbys free bore and accuracey. I guess
my reply didnt give much info. but was a long way of saying I to am interested in this cartridge.

vinnieI HAVE A 338-378 WBY IN AN ACCUMARK.IT SHOOTS 3/4" GROUPS. SOMETIMES A LITTLE BETTER.THAT IS WITH FACTORY LOADS AND 250 GR. PARTITIONS. THE RIFLE WEARS A 4.5-14 LEUPOLD.I AM JUST BEGINNING TO DEVELOP SOME HANDLOADS FOR IT. I HAVE NOT KILLED ANYTHING AT EXTREME RANGE.THE RIFLE HAS ACCOUNTED FOR 2 BULL ELK IN THE LAST THREE YEARS.ONE AT 509 YDS. AND THE OTHER AT 277 YDS.BOTH WERE ONE-SHOT KILLS.I LOVE THE "SMACK" IT MAKES WHEN I CONNECT.I DON'T KNOW HOW LONG THE BARREL WILL LAST, BUT I DON'T CONSIDER IT AN INACCURATE RIFLE EITHER.

drdlongshotHow about sharing some reload recipes? I just bought an Accumark and am starting w/ 225 Barnes and 7828. Looking for an outfitter for 4 guys for
plains animals trip in August.
Wonder what max powder should be. Some books say 104 but one guy is up to 109 and thinks its fine.
Thanks
Shooting Times and Guns and Ammo have both had loads in the recent past. I could try and find the issues next weekend.
I refuse to exceed factory loads, which are a 250gr. at 3050fps out of a 26" barrel. I'm a couple of years out of date, but I hope that hasn't changed.
My favorite: 111 gr. IMR 5010 with 250 gr. SBT Sierra GameKing. Slightly compressed load. 3040 fps. Only shoot paper, steel, and full 1 gallon cans of sauce with it. The Sierra GameKing is considered by some to be a poor choice for such speeds.

TexicanThanks for the replies. I am now curious as to what model I should get. The choices are limited to the Accumark, Synthetic or Trm. Which would you all choose and why?
Thanks,
Texican
I use Reloader 25, start at 100gr and work up with 250gr bullets. My only load now is 109gr and a 240gr Northfork. safe in my gun.
I have one of the 1st year Accumarks, with the fluted barrel and HS Presion stock. Only thing I did was rebed the stock. She's moa out to 400yds, no place else arond here to try farther.
