9.3x57 Improved ??

9.3x57 Improved ??

Has anyone used an improved case for the 9.3x57? ......mainly for the better shoulder than the increase in powder.

This kind of falls in with some of the recent discussion on the shoulder of the 35 and 400 Whelen. A properly cut chamber coupled with correctly sized brass should give no problems with headspace. If you set you dies correctly your brass should fit the chamber properly to where there is no excess headspace. The 9.3x57 has plenty of shoulder on which to headspace.

Mart is correct on proper head spacing die settin for sure, but the best bet is to rechamber to the 9.3x62 or even the 9.3x30-06 std. or Imp. Today 9.3x62 brass and bullets are abundant, even more so than most of out US std. calibers so the 9.3x62 seems to me the best of both worlds, and is certainly one of the better all around cartridges out there today.

There is no disputing the effectiveness of the 9.3x62 but if it were me I'd leave it a 9.3x57. The round is one on the more undervalued rounds out there, much like the 358 Winchester. It is a highly effective round, easy on the shoulder but carrying considerable whomp to the target. Brass is easily made from 7x57, 8x57, 30-06 or 35 Whelen brass as well as being available from Norma.

I need to find a source of K98 mauser actioned Huskys in 9.3x57. I have seen them in Cabelas for $850, and I think I can do better than that.

Neat rifles, but not worth $850 to me.

Thanks to all for your replies, it was purely a hypothetical question. I have a 9.3x62, 74R and the 57, so there will be no re-chambering.

You are a couple years too late. Cabela's had racks full of Husky 46/146 9.3x57 and 8mm rifles a few years ago. I think I talked them down to $250 on my nice, clean 9.3x57 M146. I would have picked up a couple but so many of them had multiple holes drilled hither and yon for side mount scopes. I'll sell you mine for $750

Nice slew of 9.3X57's. Neat caliber.
Those look like M96 actions. Main difference is no third lug like M98's. Might be cock on closing as well.

With all due respect, the Husqvarna m46 and m46a are Mauser 94/96 actions. The m146 are FN Mauser 98 actions. I know because I have both. The m46 is a cock on close action and a small ring Mausers. The m46 swings like a good shotgun and a little lighter than the m146. The quality of both is excellent. There are several m146 on the page.

9.3x280 Ackley Improved sounds cool. Brass would be readily available.

Thanks for pointing that out. I must admit I apparently did only look at 8 or 10 of the 46 or 46A's or I would have noticed the third lug and shorter shroud.
