Anyone have any experience with these?? I am looking at geting one (308) as a hog rifle. Seems lik they would be faster than my bolt rifle and lighter too. A HK 770 would be nice (I think) but so far I have not found one reasonably priced with scope mount and rings. Thankx for help.

I had one once, Mine was a very nice .308 with the basket weave pattern stock. Prefomed flawlessly, I've read a lot of stuff on the net about how bad these rifles jammed but that wasn't my experince with the one I owned.

One thing I did read that would give me some concern is that extractors are next to impossible to find for these guns now. If it were to break you might have nothing more than a wall hanger.

If you're looking for a semi-auto working rifle, you might be better off getting one thats still in production.

Oh yea, one other thing, Forget about the lighter part. It was an 7 1/2-8lb rifle.

Had one in 243 25 years ago and it reliably hung up on me at least once each clip. Knew several other folks who had the same problem. Sold it after one season. There are too many other good semi-automatics to take the risk.

What would these reliable SA's be?? I do not want an M-16 or AK clone. I have an M1A which is a good rifle, just heavy. I wanted something lighter and sleeker. I do not know of any thing.

Remington 7400 comes to mind first and then the Browning BLR. Down here in the south you'll see the 7400's everywhere. A 7400 30-06 synthetic would be my 1st choice for a SA working rifle.

I've had 742's and a Model 100 in .308. I kept the Model 100, mine never jammed, and I mean not once in over 1000rds of ammo.

M# 100 is definatly one of the most reliable auto's out there, I've had 5 & only had one that was picky, for some reason it wouldn't handle round nose bullets. Maybe the reason they may not have a good rep is because they will not cycle perfectly from a bag rest?

I have a couple friends that shoot 100's in 308 and 243. The 308 has never had a problem but the 243 has given the guy fits. He changed clips and it helped some. I think the early production 100's weren't as reliable as the later ones. I prefer the BAR but that's just my preference.

Thanx all for your input. I learned some stuff and I told the seller to check it for reliable feeding and provide spare firing pin and extractor and magazine. Seems like there are parts still available from a Jack First. Guess he bought the Winchester parts. I would like to hunt with one this season. May not like it. The ones I see around here look like truck guns that are never cleaned. I did dicover you best not charge a semi-auto on the hog stand. They can hear that bolt go forward. Thats a real negative.
