I chronographed my Husky mode 46, built in 1929.


My loads are 270 gn Speer over 46 grains IMR4895, 2100fps, 2770 ft/lb energy.


286gn Hornady rnd nose over 45 grains of IMR4895, 1970 fps, 2465 ft/lb energy


Federal standard primer for rifle.


This is in my gun, work your own loads carefully, I have no signs of pressure, easy extraction.

Do you have any suggested loads w/ 3031 and/or 4064 powder?

Sorry I do not, a search on the net brings up a lot of load data, however I would not suggest anything I have not tried. IMR 4895 is a good powder and I use it for several calibers.

About 12 years ago I sold my Husquvarna in 9.3X57. IIRC the 232 gr Norma bullet was driven by 46 gr IMR 3031 for a velocity of around 2400 fps.

I have an unverified data for 44 grains of 3031 using a Privi-Partizan 285 gn bullet.
I am taking the slower moving heavy bullet concept and I want to load some solids so the slower powder
is what I want.

41.0 grains of AA 2460 with a Prvi 285 Yields 2050 fps out of my M46. Best part, regulation is spot on with the factory sight settings.

Many of the old published loads were 46,000 CUP loads for the M96 action.

In a M98 action you should get performance of 150 fps below the 9.3X62 cartridge. 286 gr bullets should do 2250 fps as a safe load.

Another comparison is to look at the 358 Win loads for 250 gr bullets & go up from there - for the larger bore & case size.

I think Varget will work well too.

The M46 was a 96 based action. Loads should be developed with that in mind.

I have a very accurate load of 48 grains of Win. 748 with the 250 gr. Accubond. Sorry I have not chronoed it yet but it shoots <1" at 100yds. Its out of a 98 based Husky with a 1 1/4x4 S&B scope. Pressures seem quite mild.

I find it interesting zir gets higher velocity with less powder than I do, the ADI equivalent chart shows AA2460 is close to IMR4895. I should try AA2460 if I could find some in the current gun/ammo
scare we are in now.

To date I've only tried RL15, with WLR primers, in my M46 Husky.

So far I've worked up to 46.0 gr. of RL15 behind the 286 gr. Hornady PSP, for 2025 fps (15' velocity), using reformed R-P 8x57 brass. That same cool, late fall day 3 Norma 286 gr. PPDC factory loads averaged 2015 fps. Using heavier NORMA Re brass, 45.0 gr. gave 2030 fps with that bullet on a warm midsummer's day, and 2000 fps with the 286 gr. Norma RNSP Alaska.

So far I've only tried 46 gr. of RL15 with the Speer 270gr. SMP (in reformed R-P 8x57 brass); it gave 2090 fps (again, on a warm summer's day).

Thanks ClassicAL, My next try was RL15 as I use it in my 9.3x62 and 35 Whelen. That Hornady bullet has a SD of 305, and at 2050 fps it develops 2670 ft/lbs of energy, a real thumper.

FYI, the Norma website page for the 9.3x57 (http://www.norma.cc/en/Ammunition-Academy/Loading-Data/93x57/) shows the following max. loads for N203-B, which is similar to RL15: 47.1 gr. with the 286 gr. Alaska (2074 fps); 46.5 gr. with the 286 gr. Oryx (2093 fps); and 46.1 gr. with the 286 gr. Woodleigh (2067 fps).

It was from the Norma data that I estimated a preliminary max. for RL15 at 46.0 gr. with the 286 grainer. I haven't tried working up to 47.0 gr. because the peak accuracy with the Hornady bullet in my Husky is at 45.0 gr.
