phurley5.300 Winny with 180 grain North Forks at 3100 fps, or 200 grainer North Forks at 2900 for the big stuff ( Nosler Partition can be used depending upon personal preference). I have taken many Elk, Caribou, a 91/2 ft. Brown Bear and scads of Deer with the old beat-up and deaply scratched post 64 Model 70 Winchester, that has never seen the hands of a smith.

Good shooting.

Dr. LouAlthough I really like the 300 H&H for its class and history, but for a standard length action the 300 Win. is the best compromise, and I don't care much for the WBY or WSM rounds. If I need more power, I'll go with a larger caliber. Lou
