Re: Tikka T3 lite?
I am thinking about purchasing a T3 in 338 mag. Has anyone shot this caliber in this rifle? Wondering about accuracy/recoil.

Hello guys, just bought a tikka t3 lite in ,300 win mag and must say im impressed! The action is the smoothest i have ever seen and the trigger is one of the best ive seen on a factory rifle in this price range( think its the same as on the sako 75 rifle but not sure) and the overall finish is pretty good!

So what do you guys think of these rifles? Any pluses or minuses?

Sako,

I have recently bought a T3 Lite Stainless in 300WSM and love it. Have not done a whole lot of shooting with it yet due to lack of time but it groups reasonably well (1.5" @ 100m) with Winchester 180gn Powerpoint Factory loads. Have not handloaded with it yet but will do so soon.

I have also just bought (waiting for deliverey) a T3 Lite in 6.5x55 as I have always wanted one. That brings my number of Tikkas to 5. I love all of them. They all shoot well without any gunsmithing, the triggers are all excellent - I have no complaints with them. They are just a good all round pracical, tough rifle and beat the hell out of a lot of more expensive competitors. By the way the trigger and barrells are Sako.

Good luck with yours and let us know how it shoots.

Thanks for the replys guys! Just finished putting my new Meopta 4-16*44 scope on and loading up some ammo with 150 gr silvertips, 185 gr Lapua scenars and 125 gr sierra spitzers in my oh so expensive lapua cases and now im just hoping for a calm day tomorrow!

A big reason i bought this rifle was that i saw a friend of mine shoot his t3 lite 7mm rem, a two 3 shot groups at 300 meters measuring 3/4 and a 1.2 inches! An astonihing accurachi from a rifle in this prize range!!
Only hope mine will shoot like that!

I looked at a T-3 today in 270 wsm. and after thinking about it tonight I'm going back to buy the rifle saterday.
I'll put a 2-7 leopold on it and it will be a nice light deer rifle for the wilderness hunts I do in September.

I was thinking about 270wsm, 300wsm and the 300 win mag in this rifle and did choose the big one mainly becuse its better to get brass and dies for it up here!

I own one sako in ,243 and i love that little cartridge for varmint hunting, quite a few arctic foxes have been vaporized with my forester 243 rifle!
Gotta try the new tikka on the foxes just to see what the 300 win mag does to them

Well going out to test the tikka on the range!!
Good luck with your tikkas guys!

I went back to the gun shop today and bought the Tikka T3 lite in 270 wsm. It realy looks like a well built rifle, the trigger is better than any Rem. or Win. I've seen out of the box. The barrel is floated nicely and the fit between the stock and the action looks very nice. If it shoots as well as it looks like it will I'll be happy.
For the price it looks pretty good.

When I picked up the rifle today the gunsmith told me not to do my normal shoot clean, shoot clean breakin, but to sight the rifle in and shoot without the breaking cleanings.
The owners manual says the same. What have you guys done?
Do you think I should do my normal breakin routine?

I have a 300 winmag in T3 hunter.Bought in feb,I don't recall anything in the owners manual saying don't clean excesively during the break in I did the shoot one clean for the first twenty shots etc.My barrel has copper fouled to the point of accuracy loss every twenty rounds +/-.I have had a smith scope it and the bore is smooth so the rough bore theory is out.I have 200 rounds through it,mostly hornady and now starting to use noslers more so I can't honestly say if it will foul to the same degree, only a couple of shooting sessions will tell.I have shot some noslers with success I just have'nt gone higher than 15 shots without sweets treating the bore. With the 1-11 twist you will probably get better results for accuracy with 165gr bullets.I can shoot 180gr bullets but only to 1.25-1.5" groups.165gr shoot to .5" groups.

I know more than one sako barrel with the same liking of 165gr bullets. One more thing you might want to look at a pachmayer butt pad, your rifle is 1/2 a pound lighter than mine ,I don't know what you are used to for recoil, but you will know when you let drive.

Hope this helps RB
