I was going to work on some loads in my Whelen, but I had heard at the local gunstore that Reloader 15 is a good option. I haven't used it and was curious to hear if any body had and what their thoughts were. Any and all input is more than welcome.

Yes, its a good combo. Check out the 35 whelen threads in here. 225 gr tsx,s, 250 gr hornadys, speers and so on giving good groups with RL-15. It works in my guns real well. So well I have never tried another powder in my whelens.

RL 15 is agreat place to start. Like raybass said, it has worked so good in my whelen that i haven't tried anything else.

I tried some other powders 1st.
But Once I tried RL-15 , I have not put anuthing else through it,,,tj3006

RL 15 in my 35 Whelen AI works very well.

I started loading for my M700 Classic 35 Whelen in 1988, using IMR4064 and AA2015BR with great success. I switched to RL 15 and now that is the only powder I use.

After reading numerous internet reviews and posts here, I purchased Alliant’s R15 and am amazed of the results. I’m working on 7mm08 loads with it also. Wish I had the money and storage for a keg of it.

You would be hard pressed to find a powder more suited to a single cartridge than RL-15 to the 35 Whelen. It is THE powder for 225gr and 250gr bullets. I just loaded up some 225gr Nosler partitions with a max load of 56.5grs of RL-15 and will try it out tomorrow.

Supposedly 63grs of BL-C(2) with a 200gr bullets will get ya 2,800fps but bl-c2 is very dirty and seems inconsistent. H4895 is another very good powder with 200gr bullets.

I am still exploring the whelen.
Looking at my load records RL-15 is listed as promising.

There are a few powders that every reloader should keep on hand.....and RL-15 is among them!

Also good for the Whelen is H-4895 and Viht N-140 but as appropriately pointed out....RL-15 is a good pick!

If you have some H-380 around it works well to. I use it for several other things I load for as well.

I have used IMR 4895 for over 30 years in my Whelen, but I admit that I have been tempted to try R15.

I just turned the bolt, added a scope, and installed a Timney trigger on the old boy as well as a re-blue, so I guess it is time to work up (or at least try) some new loads.

I was going to try a whole range of powders after I got my Whelen. Like 4064, 4320, 4895, varget and R15 I started with R15 and ended there. Groups were very good from the start and a little fine tuning got me all I could ever want. I have more than enough R15 of the same lot number to do me for a long time. You might also want to look at H-335 if any of the other's don't give you the results you desire.

VV-140 shot better in my 35 W with both Speer/Hornady 250s and 225 Sierras. Re-15 would be my second choice as t is in my 223 with heavy bullets.
