This one will need work done. Someone had already tried to sporterize the action. When these were originally made they came in either 7x57 or 7.65 Argentine. I already have a 7mm-08, so might shy away from the 7x57.

9.3x62. that was a period. ubless you want a 7x57.
Build the 9.3 first anyway.

8x68mmS?

Well , my favourite calibers are 7x57 and 8x68S , so I would be searching for another similar rifle ...used to have an 8x68S and sold to a hunting buddy, with a Lothar Walter 26" barrel extremely accurate. Have had several 7x57 and still has one sporterized. Were replaced by multibarrel Blaser due to have more rifles than new restrictive laws allows. My hunting buddy uses ( here, in Afrika, New Zealand and Argentina ) a 8x68 , a 300 Win Mag,a 338 Win Mag , an 3006 , a 416 Rem Mag , he even have an 338 Lapua Mag!!! All build on M-98 Chilean Steyr 1912 actions. If you were lucky and got one of the never used thousands of Steyrs exported in the 90 s , I would leave it in 7x57 .
By the way , Chilean military NEVER used 7,65 Caliber , but 7x57 Mauser for more than a century.

The 8mm will run right along side the 8mm RM, with a shorter case, and no stinking belt!
