Got a question for all you CRF fans:

Here is the situation. You have just Ejected a spent cartridge from your CRF rifle and are getting ready to chamber the next cartridge from the magazine.

How far is it allowable for the bolt to move forward "without the cartridge being under control of the Extractor" before it is considered "improperly timed"(aka it has become a Controlled Round/Push Feed) and needs to go to the GunSmith? 1/4"? 1/2"? 1"? 2"?

Actually, had you rapped the butt of the rifle a couple of times on the floor or something solid, I wouldn't have been surprised to have the neck drop out. Or running a cleaning brush thru it from the muzzle or, if you're a purist, running it thru and then back from the receiver end.

Having never hunted "dangerous game", I haven't any need for a "dangerous game rifle" or "DGR" to the really cool folks in the know. Thus, my 7RM, 300WM and 338WM are push feed. From what the push feed bashers say, I have been extradinarily lucky having never experienced a failure to fire, nor feed nor extract. Where I needing a "DGR", I think I would get my recommendations from someone with considerably more experience than what I consider to be the average case in these rooms. At a guess, I would imagine Saeed has faced at least as much and probably more "DG" than anyone else in this room. He says he has used (gasp, shudder) push feed rifles for years without problems. I would think that pretty well closes the book with regards to all of the hot-stove league advantages of a CRF and all of the contrived short comings of a push feed.
