Replacement Stock for Ruger MK II M77 ?

I'm looking in replacing the wood stock from my ruger to something that closely resembles the lines of a Weatherby stock. I find that my Weatherby Vanguard in 300 Wby cal doesn't hurt my shoulder as much as my Ruger in 300 win mag cal. The Ruger stock's butt plate is thin, and my cheek hold is high on the stock and feels to pointed where the cheek hold is (for me anyway). I hate to get rid of the stock, for it does look very nice, but if I can find a more comfortable one...well I'll change it.

I don't know about other brands but McMillan offers their Sako classic and Sako hunter for the Ruger MKII. The classic has a straight comb with a cheek piece and the hunter has a monte carlo cheek piece which is more like the Weatherby.

I too disliked the factory Ruger Synthetic stock. I think the new ones may be better, mine was the old "canoe-paddle" model. I replaced mine with a Hogue Overmolded stock. I love it. It is a bit heavier, but came with an excellent recoil pad and has that rubberized grip. Accuracy improved with it's installation as well.

I'm refurring to the wood stocked rifle of Ruger, not their synthetic. I'm finding that the narrow butt plate digs into me under recoil, and it puts my cheek at a high hold to come in line of sight W/the scope. I'm aware that the med factory scope rings hold my scope a little high, but I don't know if I could get a away W/using the low rings. I have a Leupold VX ! 4x12x40 on it now. I am looking to replace the wood one though W/a synthetic replacement that is simular to Wby ones.

I was led to believe that Weatherby's drop style stock produced more recoil than a straight style.
Have you thought about trying a recoil pad than ajusting your eye relief on you scope?
I'm going to try Rugers new synthetic on my M77.

Actually, it produces less felt recoil. Notice how the portion of the comb where the cheek rests drops forward. That means that the comb moves away from your face as the rifle recoils back.

I replaced the original Butler Creek plastic stock (which had a small amount of stock drop) on my Howa 1500 .30-06 with a Weatherby-style fiberglass/carbon fiber stock from Bell & Carlson. The combination of a better cheek weld, forward-sloping comb, and a Pachmayr Deccelerator pad (included with the B&C stock) made the rifle painless to shoot.

I stand corrected.
I've never shot a Weatherby made rifle but was told this by a couple of people in the past. I never heard otherwise til now. You owning one is the proof in the pudding.
I know my Ruger old style synthetic in 7mag kicks harder than any other 7mag I've had the chance to shoot. I don't like the concave stock. It's nice to have something fairly flat against your cheek.

Everyone's different in their perception of, and reaction to recoil. I DID notice a significant decrease in the feeling of recoil, both on my shoulder and on my face, when going from a Butler Creek to a Weatherby-style stock. Others may say otherwise, and it's a valid opinion too, as long as it is crafted out of personal experience and not from hearsay.

Thanks for the replies fellers. Again, I believe I'm wanting a synthetic for I do not own one yet to date. I'm looking for one that resembles the Wby stocks for they feel better to me. The Wood Ruger stock seems to dig down deep in me when the rifle goes boom. It's not the eye relief, it's the eye line of sight is a little high (high cheek hold). I may try some low Ruger rings to bring that down some, but that Ruger skinney butt just seems to hurt quite a bit more than the thicker Wby stock. You know, now that I think of it; the rifle feels barrel heavy, unballanced with that nice thick barrel, and little thin butt plate. Oh well, the Wby high cheek hump is VERY comfortable......boilerroom, you should try a Wby, their a kick.....grin

340 Wby........Ouch. That's gonna hurt. I'm thinking of ordering a PAST recoil shield for my shoulder to use at the range so I can last a few more rounds off the bench. Anyone use one these shoulder bra's [Eek!]

I have weatherby composites on my two hardest kickers a .416 & .585 they suit me and I think they do help with recoil but each to ther own hey.

Yep, I use the PAST recoil pad when shooting my Ruger 77 300 Win Mag. I hate shooting the damn thing without it. Especially on a bench.
