Saw my first ever Sako Finnbear in the. 300 H&H today.
Was poking around a sporting goods store in Buffalo, WY.
95%+ condition with Talley QD 1" rings.
Store is asking $1300.
Rifle has seen very light use.
It has iron sights as well.
What does the AR H&H crowd think?

Hollis PerkinsI have never seen one in .300 H&H either. It sounds a bit high on price, but if you like the caliber, you're not likely to find one any cheaper.

LJSThe only 300 H&H Sako I've seen was an early gun on a Mauser action. I would be very anxious to hear if it is a true Sako made action on this gun.

mdstewartOf course the only reason this rifle is priced this high is the rarity of the caliber. Is it an original barrel? If so, then it's probably worth the money if the barrel is clean, strong rifling, and chambers properly. After all, the .300 H&H is the best there is.

tom ga hunterThe web site below list the 300 H&H in L-61 Carbine (1st Pattern). Obviously this is a VERY rare rifle. If you collect them maybe that's a fair price but I think the going price for a Finbear is $650-700.

The .300 H&H is a scarce caliber in the L61R action. It was supplanted by the .300 Winchester around 1965 and very few were chambered for the H&H after that. It will certainly have been produced prior to 1972. A 95% Finnbear of that era in more common calibers will typically bring in the $800 range. Since it is fair to say that the H&H chambering is worth a 50% bonus, then the asking price is not very far out of line. If they would take twelve for it, I'd buy it if I were you.

To my mind an L61R in 300 H&H is well worth $1300 (providing it's all original and as described). You can't buy a new Sako in 30-06 for that and it's a better built rifle in a very rare and very desirable chambering. If you don't buy it, please give me the dealer's phone # and I'll take it!

If neither of you are interested, I will certainly take it at that price. Even here in Finland, Sako's homeland we rarely, if ever see an original in 300H&H. You could easily double the price here...

huskyMy brother has Harrry Selby´s cousin Ken Randall´s Sako L61R .375 H&H rifle. The rifle has taken 4 +100 Pounders, the biggest a 125 pounder. What´s the value of that rifle? History verified by Ken Randall´s daughter Cathy AND Harry Selby.

45-70 shooterSAKOs were made in 300 H&H before there was a 300 WinMag. The barrel will be marked "300 Magnum" as were the early cases.
If it has condition, has proper barrel marking, jump on it as they are quite rare.
Probably the same one I failed to buy at Creekside Gun Shop decades ago when I was an impoverished student.
