The 300 WSM Is Going To Be Popular.
Two shooters/hunters that I know have brought up the subject that they are interested in getting a 300 WSM. Each is looking over the selection of rifles.

One I know has a 30/06, 270, 308, 358 Win., 220 Swift and a 375 H&H. So the 300 WSM would be his "300 Magnum". The interest seems to be on a shorter, handy rifle.

At a gun shop today they had 300 WSM Power Points at $19.95 a box which is a fair price.

I traded for a new Win Mod 70 Fwt in 300 WSM and will take it for it's first test run in the morning if the wind isn't blowing over 30 mph or so. Even before I fire it I know I'm going to love this cartridge. It's almost a 30 caliber PPC.

Just shot mine for the first time this morning, a Model 70 classic stainless. I'm impressed. Shot four, three shot groups with factory 180 power points, best group was .408" @ 100 yds. Put a Pachmeyer decelerator recoil pad on it, feels about like a 308.

Hi Don... I answered your QRW question over on John S's post. Did you see it?

Thinking about a 300 WSM?!?

Best Regards,

Brad

All my customers that have bought one have been most happy with it. Several have brought me targets and no wonder they are happy! Great groups. So far have sold only the Win 70's so can not speak to Brownings but I hear no bad mouthing from owners of this caliber rifle...only from those that do not own them! Maybe they are PO'ed because they don't have one...who knows?

Brad,

Yes I read your response on the QRW's. I am going to look at the Burris and Millett (Weaver styles) in person. Thanks again for your feedback.

I am not going to get a 300 WSM anytime soon only because I just got a 300 H&H pre-64 and that's the favored pet at the moment. Also I have a few 30/06's, a 30/06 improved and a .300 Win Mag not to mention other .30's!

But I am interested in a 7 mm WSM someday.

Have had mine Classic Featherweight for about three months now, no problems at all, it is accurate and reliable. Shoots well.
It is my first .30 cal rifle and picked this calibre mainly because of the short action and controlled feed. I like it a lot and don't see myself going to one of the bigger .30 cal roounds, just not necessary for what I hunt.

Shot my new 300 WSM yesterday. Best 5 shot group was 0.5" @ 100 yds. Load was 68 gr IMR4831, Rem9 1/2M primer and 165 grain PTSPCL Remington bullet. Velocity was only 2980 fps so I'll work on up and see how the accuracy holds up. I'll probably put a 1" Decelerator on it just to increase the LOP a bit. Not a bad start for a new rifle and it's first load--kinda tedious though, working loads and cleaning between each round for break-in.
