Teat HoundCHARLES DALY Mausers?
Hey Men,
Hope all is well. I'm looking to buy a beater rifle for some rough country coyote hunts, and was wondering if any of you care to speak about the Charles Daly Mausers . I don't expect much for the price they are going for. This will also be a loaner rifle for when I take my desk-driving buddies on hog hunts. I'm thinking 308 or 30-06.

MajorCaliberI will make an excellent rough duty rifle, they are made by Zastava, same as the old Mark X, I have several of them.

If they shoot as good as the old Mark X's

I have one in .243 that thinks it's a target rifle, it's the light weight barrel, and it shoot's in the .3's

ramrod340The Daly barreled actions I have shoot ever bit as good as my old MKX. sub MOA without a lot of work. The barrel contour is just a touch lighter than the MKX. Real hard to beat for the price.
As usual just my $.02

okie johnIf you want a tough CRF rifle that unitiated people are unlikely to screw up, try a Ruger All-Weather in 30-06.

Thanks for the response. Sounds nice, but a CD Mauser is roughly $200 LESS than a Ruger. I'll feel much better if they drop a less costly rifle than a Ruger.

jstevensI have a buddy that still has some in .30-06 for something like 279-$289. I have a 7x57 and my brother has one in 7Mag, mine is kind of average so far, his shoots .6 for three shots.
A shot not taken is always a miss

Mark DobrenskiHonestly I and another bud that posts here (Brad) both have from time to time given some serious thought to the CD Mauser.
I think you should go for it and then let us know how it goes....(grins-I always like to go to school on others money)
I do think it'll work out quite well, seems to me they go for a bit over $300 here. The trigger is the only question to me. And I am sure if need be one could after market it with a Dayton if need.

ramrod340The factory trigger is adjustable. It is pretty easy to get 3# will no creep.
As usual just my $.02

My gunsmith likes them, I don't. We argue the plus and minuses all the time. The have some good points and are affordable, there are also so bad things that drive me nuts.
But a whole gun, they are cheaper than the barreled actions. A funny thing about some of his CD's he had bought a bunch some are not marked the same.
My issue is the side safeties, I really dislike that feature and its real hard to fix. The other big issue for me is the mag release button, I much prefer the old Mark X with the release inside the trigger bow.
The mag release can be improved and its not a ton of work, the safety is just expensive to correct, I am not willing to get that much money tied up in a CD.
If those two feaatures don't bug you though they are good value for the dollars, but again go buy a complete rifle they are cheaper than just the barreled actions if you shop it hard.
