.338 Bullet Survey-BR and LR shooters
To all benchrest and longrange shooters who use a .338.

I have a friend who makes custom bullets and he wants feedback about demand and ideas on a .338 heavy VLD longrange bullet.

He is thinking of making a bullet which will be VLD style and weight from 300-320grs. Rebated boattail style.

Is there any demand for such a projectile and if so lets hear your thoughts as to what you would like to see produced.

that can be interesting but a lighter bullet ( 275/280 gr ) with good BC can be a better option because most common case for 338 cal is 338 Lapua Mag and water capacity of 338 LM don't allow to launch 300/320 gr bullet with enought velocity , 300 gr is amazing on 338 LM IMP or 338/416 but that not a real broad market .
if you check 6.5 cal the 123 Lapua is lighter than the regular 139/142 and give a good BC link with a highter velocity you get closely same result with less recoil and less long bearing bullet .
another big problem is to get strong jacket for 338 LM bullet perhaps Sierra can suplly jacket .

try to make good secant ogive rather than a tangent look as a Hornady AMAX ......

good shooting

Corbin, Sierra markets the 300 Gr. Matchking in .338 dia. and I shoot that bullet a great deal in my .338-378 Weatherby Magnum. You need a 1 in 10 inch twist to stabilize it, and this is the twist rate that comes with the Weatherby Accumark. I don't think there is too much demand for this weight bullet in .338 bore size to make trying to market one a sucessful venture. Sierra has the market pretty well sewn up in this weight and bore size. Bill T.
