I just bought my first WBY today. A Vanguard sage country in .257 WBY Mag.

Take it out and shoot a few of those Timber Wolves up there.....don't forget to shovel and shut up!

That's a nice looking rifle. Be sure and let us know how she shoots when you get to the target range or get back from the hunt.

Great choice on a good looking rifle. If you handload 110gr Accubonds and IMR-7828 are the key.

I loaded up some accubonds for my 300 wsm and I had a couple of tips come off the bullets while in the magazine? They didn't shoot that great either. There's a guy on the weatherby Nation forum who shoots a 30-378 and he had the tips fall off nine different bullets and that was factory ammo. He's having major accuracy problems too. With all the good bullets out there I don't want to have to worry about ballistic tips falling off my bullets. I'm going to load up some TSX and Sierra's to start off. I hope my new Vanguard shoots decent with something

bkm--congratulations, you are among the ELITE in the gun world. There are only a few of us left so take good care of yourself, also get to shooting that .257. They are really terrific.

I have shot 180gr Accubonds in my 30/378 with great results since they came out. If some guy had 9 lose tips out of a box some store jock probably dropped the box before being sold. Make no mistake, 110gr Accubonds in the 257 are excellent bullets and kill VERY well. Your call. My 257:

I have the Wby model 500 257 wby. That caliber is a fine rifle. You'll have a lot of fun with it.

Nice socks. Gun looks good, too! Am thinking of a Vanguard in .257 but I'm a little worried about the velocity loss through a 24" barrel. Are you going to be handloading/chronographing?

Thanks for the comment on the socks! I got them for christmas.....grin. I was worried about the 2" also, but alot of Vanguard shooters from different forums reassured me that I wouldn't miss the 2" so I bought one (can't afford the mark V). I ordered the dies for it tonight and will be loading by the middle of next week. I don't have a chronograph, but it's the next thing on my list.

I have a Vanguard .257 Wby Mag and just love it. It will shoot anything from the 75 grain to the 117 grain bullets very accurately. I use the 117 grain for whitetail deer and the 100 and 75 for targets and varmints. I reload, so I've reduced the cost of ammo significantly.

You're going to enjoy your rifle. It is a wonderful caliber.

Red, That's good to hear. I took it to the range the first time the other day and shot 17 rounds in three shot groups. Majority of those groups would have two touching or almost touching and one flier. When I say flier I mean about 1 1/2" from the other two. But it would consistanly lay two together. Some of those fliers were on clean barrels too. I was shooting 100 grain spire point factory ammo. It was the only box of ammo that I could find. I'm going to start reloading with Ramshot or R-22 and 100 grain TSX's what do you think?

Good to hear about the barrel length, I just visited the local big box store and they had a pair of Vanguards in .257 Roy, wanted the blued/synthetic but it was found in the "sold" bin. Almost justified the extra $140 for the stainless model right there.

I really like my blued/synthetic .300 Win Mag, and I think I'm going to have them order in the blued/synthetic .257 as it's been a while since I've owned proper Weatherby-firing Weatherby.

Both the factory-shot targets were near-MOA.

Congrats on your new rifle. I think that you are going to be happy with it. In my rifle RL 22 and 100gr.TSX bullets will "get er done".

I got my Weatherby addiction with a 338-378 Accumark. Then I bought a Vanguard Stainless Sporter in 257. I just love that cartrdige and rifle. No worries about the 24 inch barrel. I get 3555 - 3613 fps from 100 grain TSX factory rounds and very close to that with my handloads. My handloads are not max either. 100 grain TSX with 70 grains of IMR-7828 shoots very accurately from my rifle.

Take it out shooting, I know you'll enjoy it.

The grip and forearm have carvings that look good. Are they had carved or lazer etched? Do you have any close ups of the work?
