shorty rifles
We have been getting the german made SO Shorty rifles(grip repeating/slide action bullpups) brought into Australia in calibres up to 416 rem. Just wondered if anyone has any experience with them yet.

I have no user experience with this rifle. I just wanted to say, I remember handling one at the SHOT Show a few years ago. I wanted one! I like the whole idea and the function. When we talked to them they said they were working on a LH version but I have not seen where they actually made one. The test targets they had there were very impressive. I still like the rifle but will probably never buy one. Sean

There were two (neat to me) strange safeties on this rifle. One it has a grip safety like a 1911. The other safety was that you could pull the pistol grip/pump back a fraction of an inch. This pulled the firing pin out of line with the primer. Actually dropped the rear end down out of line. Safe to be sure also fast to put into use. Assume a firing grip and the pressure of grabbing the pistol grip was enough to realign everything.

Like I said I have always thought it was a neat rifle. I can't see trying to shoot that thing left handed though. That explosion that close to my jaw does not give me the warm fuzzies. Sean

Their website sommer-ockenfuss.de seems to have closed down. Is there a new URL?

Thanks for the information in advance.

I recently found out from the Australian distributor that the company in germany has stopped making them or may even be closed down totally.
Pity, I liked the idea of a short bullpup hunting rifle for the thick stuff myself.

Idea was good, very noisy in operation, though

I don't want anything like that.
