ARE spear hunters crazy?
Ok I admit I have never tried it. Now I am to old and fat to move fast enough. Years ago my father had a hunting book about a guy in brazil hunting jaguars with a spear. As I recall he took some incredible number of cats somthing like over 30 with a spear. Anyone know who he was?

Alexander "Sasha" Siemel, the name of the book is Tigrero. It is a great read and Siemel led a hell of an exciting life. He wound up moving to Pennsylvania in his later years, had a museum/ gift shop, now closed for years, I have a brochure from the shop as well as many signed books by Siemel! Steve

I don't know, however, I learned that if I was close enough to stick something I was close enough to shoot it.

"Sasha" Siemel, born in 1890, Letonia. I heard that he hunted 300+ jaguars in Mato Grosso state, Brazil - pantanal. There is a documentary comming up shortly about his passage in Brazil. This guy is a legend, althoug he manage to learn spear jaguars with the locals. We called this kind of jaguar spear "zagaia". Heard also that when the .357 Magnum came up, in the 30's, S&W sent to Sasha a mod. 19 to be proven here. The serial # is 10. Here is some pics that I've collected on the interenet
